Marathon Petroleum Company LP (MPC) has an opening within the Value Chain Optimization organization on the Value Chain Insights team. Our mission is to deliver exceptional, cutting-edge analytics and meaningful insights that empower decision-makers by increasing trust and confidence in our reporting and reducing barriers to timely, actionable insight.

This role sits in the Dashboarding & Reporting vertical and is an individual contributor responsible for building, enhancing, and maintaining dashboards and standardized reporting outputs that translate value chain performance and planning and model outputs into clear, consistent, and auditable decision support. You will partner with stakeholders to understand reporting needs, strengthen data quality and refresh reliability, and improve accessibility and adoption through reusable templates and standardized visualization.

This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate's experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acquires, validates, and transforms data from approved source systems to create reliable reporting datasets for dashboards and recurring reports; document assumptions and refresh logic.

  • Performs descriptive and diagnostic analysis to explain KPI movement, identify drivers, and surface exceptions that should be highlighted in dashboards and recurring reporting.

  • Develops repeatable calculations/metrics (e.g., KPI definitions, measures) used consistently across dashboards and reports.

  • Applies basic statistical/variance checks to validate reporting outputs, detect anomalies, and support auditability of reported results.

  • Designs, builds, and maintains Power BI dashboards and standardized reporting outputs that are consistent, auditable, and easy to interpret across planning cycles and locations.

  • Ensures integrity and quality of reporting data through validation checks, reconciliation, and refresh monitoring; troubleshoot data issues with source system owners/IT.

  • Partners with planning, operations, and commercial teams to prioritize reporting needs and deliver dashboards/reports aligned to agreed KPI definitions and standards.

  • Continuously improves reporting processes by reducing manual steps, improving refresh reliability, and simplifying end-user workflows.

  • Follows established data governance and reporting standards; contribute to data flow documentation (definitions, lineage, logic) to ensure reporting outputs are fit for use.

  • Contributes to sustainable reporting data pipelines and automation by defining requirements, testing outputs, and coordinating with IT/data engineering on refresh and performance improvements.

  • Maintains standardized KPI definitions and calculation logic used across dashboards and recurring reports.

  • Owns dashboard lifecycle activities: versioning, release notes, user feedback intake, and iterative enhancements.

  • Builds "delta views" / comparisons between scenarios or periods to support decision support reporting.

  • Develops monitoring/communication reporting tools that support the Plan-to-Produce process (reporting outputs, templates, and recurring distributions).
