Job description

Description OPEN RECRUITMENT **Please only apply if you are willing to work in Prince George's County.** Open Until Filled The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes across the State of Maryland. Nature of Work: This position involves journey-level repair and maintenance work on motor vehicles and/or construction and maintenance equipment. Responsibilities include performing routine repairs, conducting standard preventive maintenance, and assisting with major automotive repairs at the Intercounty Connector (ICC) facility (MD 200). The duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Performing standard preventive maintenance services such as oil changes, lubricating chassis joints, and overall vehicle inspection as part of routine maintenance; Assisting higher-level mechanics in performing major repairs and extensive overhauls on equipment; Checking repairs or replacing various standard components and subassemblies such as ball joints, brake lining, and other integral parts on the vehicle; Cleaning and caring for tools and equipment and shop facilities; and Inspecting and determining the nature of routine motor vehicle malfunctions.

Employees in this classification are considered essential employees and are subject to being on call 24 hours a day, as may be required to maintain the continuous operation of a facility. Employees must provide the agency with a telephone number where they can be reached. In the event of hazardous weather or highway conditions, employees will be called to duty during off-hours to maintain and repair equipment.

This is maintenance work requiring physical exertion that is performed either outdoors under all weather conditions or inside a building. On some assignments, employees may be required to move objects weighing over 50 pounds. Employees in this classification receive supervision from a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Supervisor I or other designated official.

The current vacancy is located in Prince George's County, MD. The established list from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies at other MDTA facilities. MDTA employees are offered a generous benefits package including a minimum of 11 paid holidays, a minimum of 27* days of leave annually (personal, vacation, and sick), access to the State Pension System, deferred compensation plans, excellent health, dental, and vision plans, and more.

*May be prorated based upon start date. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience: Three years of experience servicing, maintaining and repairing motor vehicles, gasoline and/or diesel engines, or heavy-duty construction equipment.

One year of the required experience must include servicing and repairing heavy duty construction equipment and diesel engines. This includes but is not limited to full or part-time, volunteer, military, acting capacity, or any other experience that is relevant to the position you are applying for. If you have held more than one (1) position at the same employer, please list each position that you held and the length of time that you held each position. Notes: 1.

Applicants may substitute additional documented and relevant experience repairing, servicing and maintaining automobiles, trucks, buses or comparable equipment on a year-for-year basis for the required education. 2. Completion of an accredited training program for Heavy Equipment or Diesel Repair may be substituted for one and one-half years of the general experience.

The accrediting body for the training program must be listed on the U.S. Department of Education's Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs. 3

U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience. 4

Certification as a Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for two years of the required education. (The two years of experience used to qualify for ASE testing is considered an integral part of this substitution and cannot also be considered separately to meet Education or Experience Minimum Qualifications.) 5. Certification as a Master Technician in one or more subject areas by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for the required education

Licenses & Certifications 1. Employees are assigned duties that require the operation of motor vehicles. Employees must possess and maintain a Class C motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

Applicants must list the license number and date of expiration on the application. 2. Employees are required to possess and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the State of Maryland during the probationary period, depending on the type of equipment operated.

Employees must satisfy the first level of the employing administration's certification program during the probationary period. Failure to satisfy the first level of qualifications within the stated time will be considered grounds for dismissal. 5.

Employees new to the Maryland Aviation Administration, must obtain an MAA Airfield Operators Permit in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulation 11.03.01.04, Control of Vehicular Traffic on the Air Operations Area prior to permanent appointment. 6. Employees who are required to function in the capacity of Commercial Vehicle Inspector may be required to obtain and maintain their Commercial Vehicle Inspector's License

Additional Information 1. Employees must be available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required in order to maintain continuous operation of a facility. 2.

Employees are subject to being on call 24 hours a day and will be required to maintain a reliable communication link for the purpose of emergency call back requirements. 3. Employees who work with or may be exposed to hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead-based paint or chromium may be required to undergo periodic medical testing and have the ability to wear a respirator.
