Job description

About Veev

Veev is leading the transformation of the construction industry with an innovative approach to modular home construction. Veev's prefabricated closed-panel systems allow homes to be assembled efficiently on-site while delivering a more sustainable and higher-quality final product than traditional construction. As a new subsidiary of Lennar, Veev leverages the strength and scale of its parent company while maintaining the speed and disruptive approach of its roots as a Silicon Valley-based startup. Veev has developed a vertically integrated approach that involves multidisciplinary collaboration across real estate, design, development, engineering, manufacturing, and construction.

This role is critical to scaling Veev's digital product and manufacturing platform. The Manager, MCAD will own the systems, standards, and release workflows that convert architectural and engineering inputs into manufacturable MCAD assemblies, drawings, BOMs, and production deliverables.

The Role

As the Manager, MCAD, you will lead the team and technical systems behind Veev's SolidWorks-based production environment. You will own the MCAD standards, SolidWorks PDM workflows, parametric model structures, manufacturing drawing practices, and design-to-production processes that enable Veev to create repeatable panelized building systems.

This is a hands-on systems leadership role. The right person does not need to already know Veev's proprietary workflows; however, they must have the technical depth and learning agility to absorb a structured knowledge transfer from the current MCAD leadership team and become the long-term owner of the MCAD/PDM production system.

You will work closely with BIM, PLM, Software, Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering Production teams to maintain the digital thread from Revit/BIM inputs through SolidWorks/PDM, release-to-fabrication workflows, PLM/BOM synchronization, and downstream production deliverables. You will also help evaluate future MCAD platform strategy, including potential use of cloud-native CAD platforms such as Onshape.

This role is not expected to be the sole software developer for MCAD automation, but must be capable of understanding the architecture, defining requirements, validating outputs, troubleshooting issues, and partnering with Software to maintain production continuity

Responsibilities

  • MCAD Strategy & System Ownership - Own the structure, scalability, performance, and governance of Veev's MCAD environment, with a focus on SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, manufacturable panel assemblies, and repeatable design-to-production workflows.
  • Team Leadership & Technical Direction - Lead and develop the MCAD team, set expectations for modeling quality, drawing quality, release discipline, and system-level ownership, and provide hands-on technical direction where needed.
  • SolidWorks PDM Ownership - Own the SolidWorks PDM environment from an engineering-process perspective, including vault structure, workflow states, permissions, data cards, variables, custom property mapping, revision control, release states, export tasks, and issue resolution in partnership with IT and Software.
  • Revit-to-SolidWorks / GPM Data Flow - Own and improve the workflow that transforms BIM/Revit data into manufacturable SolidWorks panel assemblies, including Generic Panel Model logic, parameter mapping, data exchange concepts, panel import workflows, and coordination with BIM and Software teams.
  • Parametric Panel Model Frameworks - Maintain and evolve reusable parametric model frameworks, including top-down assembly structures, equations/global variables, configurations, display states, coordinate systems, naming conventions, and automation-friendly modeling practices.
  • Manufacturing Drawings & Release-to-Fabrication - Own MCAD standards for manufacturing drawings, BOMs, panel assemblies, revision management, and FAB package generation, ensuring outputs are accurate, complete, production-ready, and aligned with fabrication and assembly requirements.
  • PDM / PLM / BIM Integration - Partner with PLM, BIM, Software, and IT to maintain reliable workflows between SolidWorks PDM, Arena PLM, Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM workflows, CADTalk or similar integrations, and downstream manufacturing data consumers.
  • Automation Stewardship - Act as the business and technical owner for MCAD automation requirements and existing engineering utilities. Partner with Software on SolidWorks/PDM add-ins, scripts, APIs, export tools, BOM utilities, and deployment/maintenance of automation workflows.
  • System Reliability & Administration Support - Coordinate with IT and Software to ensure the MCAD/PDM environment remains operational, including licensing, user access, client/server setup, backup/recovery awareness, and infrastructure readiness for production releases.
  • Training, Documentation & Knowledge Transfer - Own MCAD training materials, standards documentation, onboarding guides, workflow checklists, release procedures, and knowledge-base maintenance so the team can operate consistently without single-person dependency.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment - Work closely with Engineering Production, BIM, PLM, Software, Manufacturing, Quality, and Product teams to ensure MCAD outputs support product intent, manufacturing execution, and downstream digital workflows.
  • Platform Strategy - Evaluate future MCAD platform options, including Onshape, by defining migration criteria, testing production workflows, assessing API/automation capability, and ensuring continuity of manufacturing deliverables before any platform transition.

Must-Have Skills and Competencies

  • Deep expertise in SolidWorks, including advanced parametric part and assembly modeling, large assemblies, top-down design, configurations, equations/global variables, external references, manufacturing drawings, and BOM workflows.
  • Strong hands-on experience with SolidWorks PDM or a comparable CAD/PDM system, including practical ownership of vault structure, workflows, permissions, metadata, custom properties, revision management, release processes, and user support.
  • Experience defining and enforcing MCAD standards, modeling methodologies, templates, drawing practices, and release workflows in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to connect MCAD model structure, data architecture, automation logic, PLM/BOM requirements, and manufacturing deliverables into a reliable end-to-end process.
  • Working knowledge of CAD automation concepts, APIs, scripts, add-ins, or engineering utilities; must be able to define requirements, troubleshoot issues, and partner effectively with software developers even if not the primary programmer.
  • Strong understanding of design-to-manufacturing workflows, including release packages, manufacturing drawings, BOMs, STEP/X_T/Parasolid or similar CAD exports, and downstream production readiness.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or technically directing CAD/MCAD engineers, designers, or engineering systems users.

  • Experience with configurable product platforms, template-driven/generic model architectures, design automation, or engineer-to-order/configure-to-order manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with prefabrication, panelized construction, building products, industrialized construction, robotics, automation equipment, aerospace, automotive tooling, industrial machinery, or similar high-complexity manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with Windows Server, SQL Server basics, AWS-hosted engineering systems, licensing administration, backup/recovery practices, or PDM infrastructure support.
  • Experience evaluating or implementing cloud-native CAD platforms such as Onshape, including API/integration, collaboration, migration, and production-readiness considerations.
  • Knowledge of routing, piping, weldments/structural members, roll forming, CNC, G-code, or automated manufacturing output workflows.

What Success Looks Like

  • The MCAD team can reliably generate, update, release, and support manufacturable panel assemblies and drawings without dependency on a single legacy knowledge holder.
  • SolidWorks PDM workflows, release states, export tasks, BOM outputs, and FAB packages are stable, documented, and understood by the appropriate team members.
  • BIM, PLM, Software, Manufacturing, and Engineering teams have clear ownership boundaries and escalation paths for MCAD/PDM data flow issues.
  • MCAD standards, training materials, and checklists are current, usable, and embedded into onboarding and daily execution.
  • Future platform decisions, including Onshape evaluation, are based on production-readiness criteria rather than tool preference alone.
