The Perfect Binder Operator will operate a soft cover Kolbus Binder with fully integrated quality control features:
Signature Recognition, Thickness Calipers on each feeder and Mill Unit, Skewed Signature Detection, Miss and Double Detection at the Cover Station, Cold Back Book Rejection.
Requirements
Responsibilities:
Read, understand, and follow job instructions to set up the perfect binder according to book makeup, height, width, and thickness. Gather and collate multiple pages and/or signatures for in-feed. Ensure quick and timely set up of bindery equipment. Operate and adjust milling and spine bindery preparation station. Operate and adjust side and spine, bindery gluing units. Operate and adjust the control module for each individual station. Operate and adjust bindery delivery and lay-down section. Operate and observe machines to detect malfunctions throughout the production run. Follow and comply with all company Quality Control procedures and policies to ensure acceptable work. Ability to select, inspect, compare, and confirm customer samples. Responsible for training and instructing assigned Bindery Associates during job setup through to completion on a case-by-case basis. As a team member always assist others when needed or requested. May be cross-trained in other areas of the plant and perform other duties as assigned. Must be able to work well with others and function with limited supervision. Demonstrate safe work habits in a manufacturing environment.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Able to work 12-hour shifts (7a-7p; 7p-7a) to meet customer demands.
• Able to work overtime as required.

• Possess a good mechanical aptitude and intermediate math skills.
• Able to use hand tools to setup and adjust equipment.
• Able to work with minimal supervision.
• Experienced in using rulers, calipers, and other measuring devices.
• Physically capable of lifting up to 60 lbs. occasionally.
• Knowledge of how to read machine blueprints and parts list.
• Physically capable of bending, kneeling, standing/walking on cement floors for long periods.
Preferred Education:
H.S. diploma or equivalent
