Job description

QuantumScape is on a mission to transform energy storage with solid-state lithium-metal battery technology. The company's next-generation batteries are designed to enable greater energy density, faster charging and enhanced safety to support the transition away from legacy energy sources toward a lower carbon future.
About the Team: The Product Management team is a multidisciplinary group of engineers and strategists who translate QuantumScape's groundbreaking solid-state battery technology into differentiated products that meet real customer and market needs. We partner closely with R&D, Engineering, Business Development, and Marketing to define product requirements, prioritize features, and ensure seamless alignment from concept through commercialization. Our team thrives on technical rigor, data-driven decision-making, and thoughtful collaboration. We are driven by an ambition to shape the future of energy storage and deliver products that accelerate the global transition to electrification.
What We Need: We're looking for a curious, analytically minded intern eager to dig into the competitive and strategic side of next-generation battery technology. This summer, you'll support QuantumScape's Product team by researching the competitive landscape, synthesizing market insights, and contributing to strategic frameworks that shape our product direction. If you're energized by complex technical markets and want your work to have real impact, we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll Do:
  • Competitive Landscape Analysis - Research and synthesize the competitive positioning of lithium-ion and next-generation battery technologies, evaluating key players' strengths, weaknesses, and market trajectories to inform product strategy.
  • Benchmark Data Collection & Synthesis - Gather and organize competitive benchmark data from third-party sources, industry reports, and public disclosures to identify market opportunities relevant to QuantumScape's product portfolio.
  • Market Requirements Research - Support the development of Market Requirements Documents (MRDs) by researching application-specific performance requirements across target customer segments (e.g., automotive OEMs, energy storage).
  • Technology Landscape Monitoring - Track emerging developments in solid-state battery, lithium-ion, and adjacent energy storage technologies, summarizing key findings and implications for the team on a regular cadence.
  • Strategic Roadmap Input - Analyze market trends and customer needs to contribute insights that inform the prioritization and direction of QuantumScape's product roadmap.
  • Research Synthesis & Storytelling - Compile research findings into clear, concise presentations and briefs for cross-functional stakeholders including Product, Business Development, and Marketing.

Skills You'll Need:
  • Current MBA student with an interest in technology commercialization, product strategy, or energy/clean tech markets.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to synthesize technical information.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Comfort working in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or related field preferred.

Nice to Have:
  • Interest or background in batteries, energy storage, advanced materials, or automotive technology.
  • Experience in product marketing, consulting, engineering, or business development
  • Familiarity with technology licensing or B2B commercialization.

Physical requirements:
  • Work is performed in a dry room, fume hood, lab area, or glovebox requiring the use of fine motor skills
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
  • Reaching and twisting motions with hands
  • Lifting up to 25 lbs.

Onsite: This position is required to work onsite 5 days per week to meet the minimum essential duties and requirements of this position. As an on-site R&D and manufacturing operations organization, in-person face to face interaction is essential to building authentic relationships, trust, teamwork, and collaboration.
