Job description

Toast creates technology to help restaurants and local businesses succeed in a digital world, helping business owners operate, increase sales, engage customers, and keep employees happy.

We are looking for a forward-thinking MBA intern to join our Operations leadership team for the summer. This isn't a traditional "keep the lights on" ops role.We are using this as a pivotal moment to experiment: What happens when you apply a technical, agentic mindset to a mature Operations organization? You will report directly to the Head of Embedded Finance and act as a technical strategist, auditing our current workflows and designing the future state of our "Ops Engine" using AI and automation.

A day in the life (Responsibilities)

  • Operational Audit & Gap Analysis: Partner with the existing leadership team to identify inefficiencies in current workflows, capacity planning models, and performance measurement frameworks.
  • AI Transformation Roadmap: Evaluate and propose how Agentic Protocols can be integrated into daily operations. Can we build "Ops Agents" to handle routine tasks? Where can LLM-based tools bridge the gap in our current tech stack?
  • Workflow Automation: Design and potentially prototype automated solutions to help the team meet and exceed SLAs more efficiently.
  • Performance Metrics Redesign: Rethink how we measure success in an AI-augmented environment-moving beyond traditional volume metrics to value-based output.
  • Strategic Recommendation: At the end of the summer, provide a formal recommendation on how financial operations must adapt, roles and responsibilities, tools and technologies and structure.

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)

  • Current MBA Candidate: Currently enrolled in a top-tier MBA program, ideally with a background in Computer Science, Engineering, or Data Science.
  • AI Fluency (AI-Pilled): This is a hard requirement. You must have a deep understanding of the current AI landscape (LLMs, agentic workflows, automation tools) and how to apply them to business problems.
  • Operational Intuition: You can look at a messy manual process and immediately see the logic-based framework needed to streamline it.
  • Executive Presence: Ability to "lean in" with a senior team during a leadership transition and provide candid, data-driven insights.

Program Benefits

  • Intern Cohort: While this role lives in Operations, you will be part of our broader Summer MBA Cohort (including our Product Management interns), providing you with a peer community and executive exposure.
  • High Impact: You aren't just shadowing; you are helping define the profile of a future Director-level hire and the roadmap for the entire department.
