Site Description
The Youth Services Center (YSC) is the District of Columbia's detention center for male and female youth, responsible for the care and custody of young people placed in secure detention by court order from the DC Superior Court Family Court Division.
Position Overview
Dedicated Aides are assigned to work with a specific scholar with a disability and support scholars in numerous situations. They work to allow scholars with disabilities to be educated alongside nondisabled scholars to the maximum extent appropriate. Dedicated Aides accompany the scholar to all classes during the school day, implement the scholar's behavior plan, provide individualized attention and instruction during academic periods, and support them during other portions of the day, as determined by individual scholar needs. Some of the more common reasons for this type of support include: (1) protection/safety of the scholar, (2) instructional support, (3) transition, and (4) reduction of anxiety for the scholar.
Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
  • Supports the creation of environments and instructional opportunities that meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Provides individualized behavior and academic supports to improve children's achievement of individual academic and behavioral goals in support of children's IEP goals
  • Consistently implements behavioral and academic strategies outlined in children's IEPs
  • Uses information and data from a variety of sources to understand children's instructional needs and progress against IEP goals
  • Maintains records and documentation
  • Keeps other members of the classroom teaching team, appropriate service providers, and families informed of progress and challenges regarding the student
  • Actively participates in professional development opportunities provided and seeks out additional professional development
  • Fulfills the standards of professionalism including appropriate dress, attendance and timeliness
  • Use creativity to support teachers in planning activities for scholars
  • Coach assigned student in social problem solving, and appropriate behavior
  • Support assigned students on academic tasks specified in the daily lesson plan, but ensure that the student is doing their own task
  • Keep scholar information confidential by treating it with the strictest confidence and refraining from discussing the student outside of the school environment
  • Provide substitute teaching support on an as-needed basis
  • Other duties as assigned by the Special Education Coordinator or school leadership

  • Associate's Degree (preferred)
  • Tutoring Experience (preferred)

Salary and Benefits
This role is temporary. Compensation will be in the form of a daily rate of $150.00 - $175.00. Full-Time Temporary employees receive four (4) hours of sick leave for every ten (10) days of time worked, up to three (3) days.
