Job description

Field Technician — Managed Services

Enlighten Technology · Honolulu, HI · Part-time · In person

$16–$20/hour

Enlighten Technology is a Honolulu-based Managed Service Provider supporting small and mid-sized businesses across Oahu, including dealerships, medical practices, law firms, nonprofit organizations, and other local businesses.

We are looking for an entry-level Field Technician who wants to begin a career in information technology. Previous professional IT experience is not required. This position is designed to provide practical, hands-on experience while helping you build the skills needed for a potential future role as a full-time Service Desk Technician.

Starting pay is $16 per hour for applicants without prior experience, certifications, or formal IT education. Applicants with relevant certifications, technical education, or hands-on experience may start at up to $20 per hour.

What you’ll do

  • Deliver, install, and replace computers, monitors, printers, and other equipment
  • Set up workstations, peripherals, cables, and basic network connections
  • Assist with computer deployments, office moves, and onsite IT projects
  • Perform basic troubleshooting under the direction of senior technicians
  • Transport equipment between our office and client locations
  • Maintain accurate equipment and inventory records
  • Document completed work and report any issues that require escalation
  • Communicate professionally with clients while working at their locations
  • Help keep the office, staging area, tools, and equipment organized
  • Shadow experienced technicians and gradually take on additional responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned

What you bring

  • A genuine interest in technology and a desire to build an IT career
  • Dependability, punctuality, and the ability to follow instructions
  • Professional communication and customer service skills
  • Comfort working with computers, cables, and electronic equipment
  • Ability to safely lift and transport computers, monitors, and related equipment
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel to client locations around Oahu
  • Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and study outside of hands-on assignments when necessary

Previous IT experience is helpful but not required. However, we want to understand about your interest in I.T.

Relevant qualifications that may support a higher starting rate include:

  • CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+
  • A technical certificate or degree in information technology
  • Previous help desk, field service, computer repair, or technical support experience
  • Experience setting up computers, printers, networks, or Microsoft 365 accounts

Where this can lead

The goal of this position is to help a motivated Field Technician develop the technical, customer service, troubleshooting, and documentation skills needed to become a full-time Service Desk Technician.

A strong employee may be considered for advancement over the course of approximately one year.

Advancement is not guaranteed and will depend on job performance, attendance, technical development, certification progress, available positions, and the needs of the company.

Employees interested in advancement will have opportunities to:

  • Work alongside experienced service desk and field technicians
  • Gain exposure to Microsoft 365, Windows, networking, cybersecurity, and managed IT services
  • Prepare for industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+
  • Take on increasingly advanced support assignments
  • Be considered for future full-time Service Desk Technician openings

Compensation and development

  • Starting pay of $16–$20 per hour, based on experience, education, and certifications
  • Certification and training support
  • Opportunities for increased responsibility and pay as skills develop
  • Gas and vehicle-use reimbursement for approved client travel
  • Monthly cell phone allowance when applicable
  • Potential pathway to a full-time Service Desk Technician position

Physical requirements

  • Must be able to lift, carry, move, and position computers, monitors, printers, battery backups, and other equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to regularly bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and reach
  • Must be comfortable working under desks, behind furniture, inside network closets, and in other confined work areas
  • Must be able to move equipment between vehicles, offices, stairways, and client locations
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and perform physical installation work for extended periods
  • Must be able to safely use basic hand tools and installation equipment
  • Reasonable accommodations may be provided to qualified individuals with disabilities

Applicants must live on Oahu. This is an in-person position that requires regular travel to client locations throughout the island.

This is a good opportunity for someone who is dependable, curious, comfortable working with their hands, and serious about starting a long-term career in IT.
