Job description

Gana-A'Yoo Services Corporation, GSC, is renowned for excellence in delivery, performance and customer satisfaction with a focus on Food Service, Janitorial Services and Administrative Services. GSC supports the National Science Foundation managed United States Antarctic Program as part of the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) and we are currently seeking a Food Clerk at McMurdo Station.

As a Food Clerk - Responsible for receipt, storage, organization, inventory and issue of food and supplies to customers. Responsible for the Maximo records relating to the supplies under their care. Provides optimum customer service. Responsible for safety in food storage areas.

TITLE: Food Clerk

SEASON: Austral Summer (Summer 2026-2027)

LOCATION: McMurdo Station, Antarctica

SECTOR/DEPT: Gana-A'Yoo Services Corporation (GSC) Antarctica

REPORTS TO: Program Executive Chef

SALARY: $689 - $768 per week

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides superior customer service to supported department. Communicates effectively with the customers and department management. Notify Food Service Supervisor or Culinary Manager of customer desires and complaints.
  • Performs tasking in safe manner.
  • Learns Maximo inventory management system and learns warehouse-operating procedures.
  • Accomplishes assigned tasking directed verbally or per task list provided by their management.
  • Receives and stores all incoming food and materials for the supported kitchen.
  • Receives and stores all 'Freshie' orders twice weekly.
  • Coordinates all South Pole, Field camp and remote galley resupply preparations and transportation
  • Coordinates work center food deliveries, military and party requests.
  • Maintains kitchen storage areas and delivery dock in a clean and organized manner.
  • Researches and issues supplies to customers. Properly and accurately documents issues and returns of supplies. Rotates all stock according to the 'First In, First Out' method of stock rotation.
  • Maintains Maximo stock records to maintain accurate inventory records of stock levels and locations.
  • Conducts inventories and audits of supplies.
  • Tracks weekly deliveries and prepares required weekly reports.
  • Develops recommended task list for following season.
  • Writes the End of Season report for kitchen storage activity.
  • Prepares identified supplies and cargo for retrograde shipment.
  • Responsible for the correct storage and special handling of all cargo upon receipt.
  • Be familiar with hazardous cargo and hazardous waste regulations and shipping requirements.
  • Be familiar with vessel offload procedures and distribution procedures of materials. Work any shift in a 24 hour period during vessel offload or during other special operations.
  • Handles confidential matters, personnel actions, management reports, etc., in accordance with management policy.
  • Conduct required preventative maintenance of assigned equipment.
  • Report all safety hazards and incidents to Food Service Supervisor or Culinary Manager.
  • Performs duties in support of food service metrics (as provided by the Food Service Supervisor and/or Culinary Manager).
  • Supports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether they can be directly or indirectly, effected by your activities.
  • Complies with all ASC Environmental Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance, requirements, and goals. Provide documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
  • Works to achieve ASC goals and contractual commitments.
  • Able to lift the safety regulation maximum from ground level to waist high. Be able to lift the safety regulation maximum over head.
  • Be able to work indoors or outdoors in all weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
  • Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION:

  • High school graduate or GED.

CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSIING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current ServSafe Food Handler certificate must be obtained prior to deployment to Antarctica.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Valid U.S. Passport

EXPERIENCE:

  • One year experience in materials administration, to include inventory management, issuing, receiving, and warehousing in a food service or food warehousing environment required.
  • Previous experience with Station Services in Antarctica may be accepted in lieu of minimum experience.

OTHER:

  • US citizenship or permanent residency required.
