Description

Based at the Inter Pipeline Sherwood Park office, the Supervisor, Leak Detection Systems reports to the Director, Operations Services and is a key member of the Operations Services team. This role provides leadership and oversight for leak detection across all pipelines and districts, ensuring systems operate safely, reliably, and cost-effectively while supporting asset protection, regulatory compliance, and Inter Pipeline's strategic objectives.


This role requires a technically strong and collaborative leader committed to continuous improvement, operational excellence, and maintaining the integrity of pipeline systems.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

   Oversee the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of the Leak Detection Systems department.
   Supervise and coordinate Leak Detection Systems Advisors to support system enhancements, upgrades, and maintenance.
   Plan, prioritize, and schedule departmental work using Maximo.
   Ensure compliance with CSA Z662 Annex E, API 1130, API 1149, and API 1175 standards across all leak detection models.
   Perform and oversee leak detection system testing in accordance with regulatory standards to validate performance and effectiveness.
   Manage, test, and tune internal and external leak detection systems to achieve optimal sensitivity and meet company and regulatory thresholds.
   Establish and manage leak detection threshold limits using the management of change process.
   Conduct and support leak detection system audits to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
   Develop, maintain, and update leak detection manuals, processes, procedures, and training materials.
   Establish baseline system performance, identify improvement opportunities, and document and archive test results.
   Participate in leak investigations and alarm management protocols.
   Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Control Room, SCADA, Engineering, Operations, ICS, Business Development) to align system performance with operational needs.
   Partner with Project Development teams to integrate leak detection requirements into facility design and construction.
   Maintain strong relationships with external vendors and service providers to support system reliability and performance.

Education, Skills and Experience

   Post-secondary education in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Systems, or a related technical field.
   Minimum 10 years of experience in transient hydraulic simulation and computational pipeline monitoring (CPM).
   Pipeline operational experience or similar exposure
   Strong knowledge of leak detection regulatory standards and pipeline operations.
   Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Access).
   Demonstrated leadership, coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Full-time permanent Monday-Friday
