Description
General Responsibility
The Control Room Operator (Dispatcher) is responsible for monitoring, controlling, and coordinating the operation of the Baggage Handling System (BHS) and related equipment at Burbank International Airport.
This position serves as the central communication point between operations, maintenance teams, and airline partners, ensuring system performance, safety compliance, and timely response to alarms, faults, or operational issues. The Control Room Operator utilizes specialized monitoring software, communication systems, and coordination protocols to maintain optimal system uptime and baggage flow across all processing areas.
Key Responsibilities
• Monitor real-time operation of the Baggage Handling System (BHS) through SCADA, HMI, or CMMS interfaces.
• Identify and report alarms, system faults, or abnormal equipment performance to maintenance teams for immediate action.
• Communicate clearly and promptly with Bag Jammers, Maintenance Technicians, and Supervisors to coordinate corrective activities.
• Log and track all operational incidents, system stoppages, and responses in accordance with company and airport reporting standards.
• Control and restart equipment remotely after verification that maintenance or clearing personnel are clear of danger zones.
• Maintain constant communication with airline, TSA, and airport operations to provide status updates on baggage flow and system performance.
• Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for emergency stops, equipment lockouts, and escalation protocols.
• Assist in verifying completion of preventive maintenance and corrective work orders through the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Support operational testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities as required.
• Ensure the control room remains secure, organized, and free from distractions to maintain focus on system integrity.
• Participate in training programs to stay current with system changes, safety standards, and communication procedures.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required; technical or vocational certification preferred.
• 2 years of experience in operations, control room, or industrial systems monitoring preferred (airport or logistics environment desirable).
• Familiarity with SCADA/HMI systems and CMMS platforms such as Maximo or similar.
• Strong communication skills and ability to multitask in high-pressure, time-sensitive situations.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical system operations.
• Proficiency in computer use, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain all airport security badging and clearances.
• Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to meet company insurability requirements.
