Job description

Durham Academy is accepting applications for highly qualified On-Call School Bus Drivers to support student transportation needs across our Preschool, Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School programs. This position provides flexible, as-needed coverage for daily routes, athletic events, field trips, and special school activities. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial and Operations Officer.
Responsibilities

  • Safely transport students to and from school, athletic events, field trips, and other school-sponsored activities
  • Operate school buses in accordance with all federal, state, and local transportation laws and regulations
  • Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any safety or maintenance concerns promptly
  • Maintain order and ensure appropriate student behavior while on the bus in accordance with school policies
  • Adhere to assigned schedules, routes, and transportation procedures
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with students, families, faculty, and staff
  • Maintain accurate transportation records as required
  • Represent Durham Academy with professionalism and care while transporting students
Qualifications
  • Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
  • Clean driving record and ability to meet all North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles and school transportation requirements
  • Ability to pass required background checks, drug screening, and medical certification
  • Prior experience driving a school bus or commercial passenger vehicle preferred
  • Dependable, punctual, and willing to accept assignments on short notice
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends
  • Strong commitment to student safety and well-being
