Job Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Department of Ophthalmology, is recruiting multiple clinical ophthalmologists to join its busy faculty practice with a competitive compensation model and excellent benefits. The UAB Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is based within the UAB Callahan Eye Hospital, where more than 15,000 surgeries are performed annually across 16 operating rooms. UAB Callahan Eye has been dedicated to delivering high-quality, innovative eye care for over 60 years, and is the nation’s only Level 1 Trauma Center for Ocular Trauma. The Department offers Alabama’s only ophthalmology residency program and is home to several fellowships including glaucoma, corneal disease, and neuro-ophthalmology. Our faculty see more than 150,000 clinical visits annually in clinical locations throughout Central Alabama, primarily in the Birmingham metro area.

The faculty practice is recruiting comprehensive ophthalmologists as well as subspeciality trained ophthalmologists in cornea and glaucoma. These positions are full-time, tenure-earning or non-tenure earning, and can be at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Professor. Responsibilities include patient care, didactic and clinical training of residents and fellows, and opportunities for basic and clinical research.
