Job Summary

This is a full-time, fiscal-year tenure-track faculty appointment with management and supervisory responsibilities as the Department Chair of Mathematics. The Department Chair provides leadership, management, planning, and advocacy for faculty and programs within the unit.

Job Duties

  • Supervises the development of Institutional Effectiveness departmental plans; resolves student, faculty, and staff problems to the extent possible.
  • Supervises all evaluation and personnel academic activities conducted by the department and leads professional development activities.
  • Teaches one course per semester.
  • Serves on Division and College-wide committees; collaborates with area colleges to articulate programs.
  • Develops and monitors departmental budgets including grants, develops goals and plans; and develops class schedules each semester.
  • Facilitates curriculum development; the hiring of full-time and adjunct faculty; and makes teaching assignments each term.
  • Supervises curriculum implementation.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mathematics or Master's degree with at least 18 graduate hours in mathematics coursework.
  • Five (5) years of full-time teaching experience.
  • A background check will be required for the successful candidate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education administration.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience or administrative record that demonstrates leadership.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for students, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Ability to lead strategic planning, program accreditation review as necessary, and assessment in the interest of promoting academic program excellence.
  • Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and to maintain them over time.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to master complex issues and convey information clearly to varied audiences; and ability to develop and communicate goals in support of the College's mission.
