Job Summary
Full-time: 37.5 Hours per week, Monday to Friday
Location: Ottawa Office (Up to 3 days per week), 70 Laurier Ave West, Suite 310, Ottawa, ON K1P 5V5 and Ottawa-based Home Office, or,ย remote if located outside of the National Capital Region.
Reporting To: Director of Technology
Salary Range: $80,000 to 95,000

Larus is growing and we are looking for talented and enthusiastic individuals to join our team!ย  We are in search of self-motivated individuals to join the Larus Labs team as Data Scientists, where we develop end-to-end real-time solutions for the enterprise market. We perform leading-edge research in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Analytics. This is an opportunity to work on various data science problems, while communicating directly with enterprise clients to gather requirements, define problems, and develop applied solutions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement scalable, distributed AI/ML-based systems;ย 
  • Design, development, integration, and testing of AI/ML models;
  • Advocate high-quality and best practices in software design and development;ย 
  • Close interaction with other team members on system integration and validation;ย 
  • Perform data analysis, visualization, and modelling with large datasets;
  • Independently interacting clients, explaining technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders;
  • Perform data acquisition, cleaning, and transformation;ย 
  • Record and document work;
  • Meet sprint goals with the team and release deliverables to stakeholders andย ย ย ย ย 
  • customers; and,
  • Other duties as assigned.ย

Expected qualifications include:
  • University undergraduate degree in STEM (e.g., Computer/Software/Electrical Engineering, Applied Math, Engineering Physics, Economics, Computer Science, etc.);
  • Masterโ€™s or Ph.D. is considered an asset;
  • 2+ years of direct experience in the design, development, deployment, and verification of AI/ML models in production pipelines;
  • Experience in a client facing role, regularly meeting client demands;
  • Passion for learning and solving complex problems;
  • Strong object-oriented programming in Python;ย 
  • Strong communication skills;ย 
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment;ย 
  • Organized and focused; and,ย 
  • Required to meet qualifications to obtain a Canadian Government security clearance (typically requires the candidate to be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada).
Technical Skill Requirements, working knowledge of:ย 
  • Python;
  • Machine Learning and Data Mining;ย ย 
  • AI/ML Packages (e.g. Tensorflow, Keras, Scikit-learn, PyTorch, Jax);ย 
  • Python data analysis and manipulation tools (e.g. pandas, numpy, dask);
  • Source control-based system (e.g. Git);ย ย ย 
  • Trend analysis and predictive modeling; and,
  • Data collection, analysis and reporting.ย 
Preferred Technical Skills:ย 
  • MLOps (e.g., Kubeflow);ย 
  • Distributed Computing (e.g., Coud, Docker, Kubernetes, Dask);ย 
  • Software Unit Testing (e.g., Python Unittest);ย 
  • Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment Systems (e.g., Azure Devops);ย 
  • Data Visualization (e.g., matplotlib, seaborn, streamlit);ย 
  • Optimization (e.g., optuna, katib, jmetalpy, GA); and,ย 
  • Mathematics (e.g., linear algebra, statistics, mathematical programming).

  • Ability to work with client stakeholders across all levels of an organization, from individual contributors to senior executives;
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-management skills;
  • Strong active-listening skills and the ability to translate business needs into data science solutions;
