Your Responsibilities
We're seeking a talented Staff Software Engineer to:
  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality software systems using Python and Rust
  • Architect scalable backend services, APIs, data models, asynchronous communication, and distributed software components
  • Build reliable systems for experimentation, prototyping, data processing, automation, and cloud-connected applications
  • Collaborate with software engineers, hardware engineers, scientists, and business stakeholders to turn ambiguous problems into practical technical solutions
  • Lead technical design discussions and mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance
  • Drive improvements in code quality, testing, observability, performance, deployment, and engineering practices

Required Skills
  • Strong proficiency in Python or Rust, with experience in at least one and a desire to learn and work with the other
  • Track record of architecting, building, and delivering complex software systems
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, data structures, and distributed systems
  • Experience building backend services, RESTful APIs, event-driven systems, and cloud-native applications
  • Experience designing asynchronous and concurrent systems
  • Experience with databases, data models, schema design, ORMs, migrations, and storage systems
  • Strong debugging, profiling, and performance optimization skills
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines
  • Ability to operate with autonomy in ambiguous, fast-moving environments while bringing others along

Desired Skills
  • Background in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, optimization, signal processing, numerical methods, or a related quantitative discipline
  • Industry experience in one or more of the following areas: software-hardware interfacing, productizing algorithms, or data science
  • Experience with async runtimes, task queues, message-driven systems, non-blocking I/O, cancellation, retries, timeouts, and backpressure
  • Experience with functional programming languages or functional programming concepts is a plus

Relevant Technologies
Experience with some of the following is valuable:
  • Python, Rust
  • Async runtimes and frameworks such as asyncio, Tokio, FastAPI, Axum, or similar

Qualifications
  • MSCS with a minimum of 8 years of relevant software engineering experience, or BSCS with 10 years of relevant software engineering experience
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver software systems of significant scope and complexity
  • Strong understanding of software development principles and best practices
  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and improve engineering practices
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated software, hardware, data, or cloud-based solutions
