POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general direction is responsible for the quality, services, development of Mingus Mountain Youth Treatment Center’s education program and the academic milieu. Provides supervision of Mingus Mountain Academy's school staff and works directly with students. The teaching position is a 12 month annual position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Academic diagnosis from observation and written tests

· Reviews Individual Education Plan (IEP),

· Plans, organizes and presents needed academic subject matter in classroom and area, groups and individual instruction

· Plan, carries out for education purposes: projects, writing, recreation, games, cooking activity, arts, drama, dance, crafts, vocational skills, outdoor living

· May prepare students to secure 8th grade diploma, GED, or high school credits

· Assumes responsibility for instructional methods, lesson plans, and evaluations

· Responsible for vocational awareness, activities, career activities, vocational related field trips and visitors

· Follows safety regulations: maintains order, settles disputes, conducts searches for contraband, prevents students from harming self and others, conducts head counts

· May plan, conduct, transport, to/from field trips

· Responsible for charting and documentation

· Acts as appropriate role model through physical appearance,, social skills, professional words and acts, boundary setting

· Self-evaluates education/clinical skills and performance

· Brings to program special interests, hobbies, talents

· Works as a team member, part of a clinical team

· Additional supervision of students outside classes may be needed

· Adheres to Mingus policy and practice concerning creation, editing, transmission, storage, and disposition of all Protected Health Information in compliance with HIPAA.

· Other duties as assigned

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum age of 21
  • Evidence of a Bachelor’s degree in Education and Arizona State Certification in area subjects. Minimum of substitute teaching certificate.
  • Related experience in providing education to adolescents with special needs preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint clearance card (or have a current valid level 1 fingerprint card).
  • Evidence of freedom from infectious pulmonary tuberculosis
  • Must pass medical exam capable of performing the essential functions of this job as listed in this job description.
  • Individual judgment, discretion, and decision making skills.
  • Emotionally and physically able to assist in physical escort and/or restraint.
  • Must be able to help carry an ill, injured, or incapacitated student.
  • Must be physically able to assist in AWOL searches in mountainous terrain.
  • Confidentiality and professionalism are essential
  • Strong professional and personal boundaries required.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, maintains professionalism and confidentiality. Individual judgment, discretion and decision making skills.
