Job description

The Math Learning Center (MLC) is a non-profit education organization with a track record of developing high-quality mathematics materials, including Bridges in Mathematics curriculum. We create programs that engage students, promote classroom community and discourse, and help more than 80,000 elementary teachers across the country deliver effective mathematics instruction.

MLC has a wealth of content, subject-matter expertise, and a highly collaborative environment that supports partnerships for content creation. We are seeking an inventive content creator to help us elevate our market presence by leveraging MLC's expertise and thought leadership across channels and target audiences. This role blends storyfinding and storytelling to develop meaningful stories to position MLC and its products to meet the moment in the dynamic education landscape.

This position is based in Oregon. In this hybrid or onsite role, office days are in our Portland, Oregon office.

What you will do:

  • Design and create compelling stories and content marketing campaigns around MLC's curriculum offerings, education approaches, and impact on educators' and students' ability to make sense of mathematics.
  • Apply a user-centered approach to marketing communications, optimizing content and delivery across channels to improve usability, engagement, and overall experience.
  • Manage day-to-day content production processes across multiple platforms.
  • Partner with internal and external subject matter experts (SMEs) to co-produce content and publish on multiple channels.
  • Monitor education market trends and leverage SME relationships to identify themes, stories, and assets we can develop into effective content and campaigns that promote MLC, its mission and work.
  • Collaborate with other members of the communications team to co-create a content calendar to achieve short-term and long-term marketing and communications goals.
  • Create and maintain MLC's website, organic and paid social media, print, and e-mail content.
  • Plan, build, and deploy marketing email blasts to support campaigns, events, and organizational initiatives, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
  • Adapt and leverage professional learning content and curriculum materials for marketing outreach.
  • Measure and analyze engagement by audience and media to demonstrate outreach outcomes and inform future outreach efforts.

How you are qualified:

  • Associate's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Three or more years of experience in marketing or social media with experience in graphic design.
  • Strong storytelling, written and visual communication skills with demonstrable ability to effectively repurpose content across multiple channels.
  • Graphic and web design capability including strong layout and design skills exhibiting attention to typography, use of color and illustrations, and ability to translate branding guidelines. Video and/or audio content creation and editing are a plus.
  • Experience in direct-to-customer engagement and one-to-many marketing (e-mail, digital and print advertising, website, social media).
  • Experience in Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Sprout Social, Squarespace, and Canva, or equivalent programs is a plus.
  • Experience in the education and/or publishing sectors is a plus.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, effectively prioritizing and managing multiple projects from ideation through execution.

We offer our employees an excellent work environment that includes:

  • An emphasis on collaboration, with all staff expected to participate in achieving organizational goals.
  • A dedicated team of mission-driven professionals passionate about math education.
  • Competitive pay and benefits.
  • Paid Time-Off: 12 holidays, 24 additional days PTO, and a wellness week.
  • Health Insurance (medical, dental, vision): Premiums paid at 100% for employees.
  • Retirement: 401(k) plan with 3% employer contribution and 2% match.
  • Disability and Life Insurance: Employer-paid short-term, long-term, and group life.
