A Maternity RN is a registered nurse who specializes in caring for pregnant individuals, newborns, and postpartum patients. They work in hospitals, birthing centers, and clinics, assisting with labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery. Their responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, administering medications, educating parents, and providing emotional support. To thrive as a Maternity RN, you need strong clinical assessment skills, expertise in maternal and newborn care, and current RN licensure, often with additional certification in obstetrics (such as RNC-OB or NRP).
