POSITION PURPOSE:
Within the framework of the policies and procedures of AWC materials functional excellence the Materials Manager is responsible for the overall coordination of the planning, ordering, receipt, storage, and distribution of all materials at the plant level. Additionally, the Materials Manager is a business partner to the Plant Leadership Team (PLT) and is responsible for building the materials team and creating an environment of cultural alignment, problem identification and problem solving.
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to excel at the essential functions assigned. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required.
Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing experience; wood related preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of supervision experience; multiple departments
  • APICS CPIM or CIRM Certification required; APICS CSCP Certification is a plus; CPM certification is also a plus
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience using computer based material management and proven proficiency with MRP systems
  • Six Sigma training and Lean Certification is required
  • Materials experience in a complex SKU intensive environment
  • Experience with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems; Oracle preferred

Skills
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office products; specifically Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Strong skills in agility, along with the ability to pivot easily when directions and priorities changes on short notice
  • Ability to listen to problem statements and discussions, with the ability to pick out key data points that can be used to validate or refute assumptions
  • Management style must be consistent with CITE Principles
  • Strong planning, time management, and prioritization skills
  • Must operate efficiently and effective within a team environment with the ability to flex and adapt as needed

Education
  • Undergraduate degree in Business/Engineering or related discipline; MBA is a plus; extensive work experience may be considered in lieu of education

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Accurately accounts for all materials, ensuring accuracy meets threshold levels
  • Oversees all material transactions making sure all transactions are accurate and timely
  • Monitors material controls to ensure levels support requirements & capacities
  • Effectively communicates with clients, providers, and suppliers on expectations pertaining to performance as defined in Client/Provider Agreements
  • Supplies PLT with accurate information related to materials, MUV, Scrap/Salvage opportunities
  • Ensures required materials are available and in acceptable condition for Clients
  • Plan and coordinate department's activities to support SQDC targets, and meet and/or exceed client and/or customer's expectations
  • Actively participate on assigned teams and/or projects
  • Ensure assigned departments perform tasks as outlined in Job Instruction Breakdowns, Quality Specifications, and Standard Operating Practices
  • Participate in identifying hiring needs; employee selection and training process
  • Provide communication on departmental expectations, motivates team members, and identifies opportunity for improvements
  • Provide team leadership consistent with company vision, mission, CITE Principles
  • Ensures Policies are followed and provides guidance and discipline
  • Effectively utilize all resources to maximum potential performance to achieve SQDC goals
  • Establishes individual goals for team members in alignment with overall organization goals and performs periodic performance reviews to determine progress

  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
    • Will supervise hourly and salaried employees in the assigned department and/or departments. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of direct reports. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employee; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, talk or hear
  • The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
  • Reports to Director of Manufacturing
  • Occasional weekend work may be required
  • Travel Requirements:
    • Up to 25% travel can be expected
