The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. What You Will Do
Under the supervision of the Lead/Manager, is responsible for the technical planning, organization and the maintenance of supplies, equipment and charges. Assure monitoring of environment and all other duties as required. Acts as liaison between Material Management, Biomedical Department and the unit. Demonstrates the ability to function in the nursing assistant capacity as needed, and as desired.
Required Qualifications
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2 Years Experience in hospital setting
  • Previous materials management experience
  • Acute hospital experience
  • Experience as a nursing assistant

Essential Functions
  • Assures accurate inventory, maintenance, repair and inspection of equipment
    Maintains records of equipment and supplies received, ordered and loaned.
    Organizes permanent location and proper storage of supplies and equipment, and facilitates consistent availability of supplies at the unit level.
    Facilitates the annual inventory for the unit providing for accurate and complete fiscal year-end dates within designated time frames.
    Provides documentation for inventory/equipment/materials variances. Maintains appropriate records and follows up on all patient care related equipment issues.
    Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and checked periodically for appropriate function, ensuring compliance with Federal and State guidelines, regulations and JCAHO Standards.
    Assists the Biomedical Department with routine preventive maintenance of all appropriate equipment, communicating with management as equipment issues are identified.
    Sends records of maintenance activities provided by contract agencies to Purchasing and Biomedical/Engineering, communicating any concerns to the unit manager as appropriate.
    Sends malfunctioning equipment for repair, tracks progress, and assures timely return, communicating issues and concerns to unit manager as appropriate.
    Assures routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment as needed.
    Assures monitoring and reading of controls is completed within designated time frame.
    Assures equipment manuals are up-to-date, monitoring all current equipment information utilizing a system that provides for access by clinical staff.
  • Department support
    Participates in unit staff meetings.
    Provides input in unit goal setting and assists in development of action plans.
    Cost effective use of supplies.
  • Equipment and supply management
    Collaborates with administration in the process of product evaluation.
    Records when disposable supplies are received and disbursed.
    Tracks the acquisition of budgeted non-capital equipment in collaboration with the Manager.
    Provides recommendations for purchase of capital equipment to the Manager.
    Collaborates with those who order equipment/supply items on a schedule that supports admission and discharge within an assigned area, demonstrating knowledge of the unit financial constraints and patient care needs.
  • Equipment processing
    Assures optimal maintenance and cleaning of equipment in accordance with Infection Control standards.
    Checks, cleans, inventories and maintains department equipment daily.
    Collaborates with CN Leads and Management to order and maintain supplies and minor equipment.
    Assists in acquisition of new supplies and equipment through research and meeting with vendors.
  • General support
    Will maintain nursing assistant competency annually as evidenced by successful completion of the Nursing Assistant Competency.
    Floats to other hospital areas as deemed appropriate by management in a nursing assistant role as needed.
    Completes nursing assistant tasks as needed on the unit, including but not limited to performance of BVI, discharging patients, attending to and assisting with meeting patient care needs, answering call lights, setting up overhead trapeze, bucks traction and CPM's.
    Will participate with patient rounding as directed by the Lead/Manager.
    Completes chart/patient care audits as directed by the Lead/Manager/PI chairperson.Assists in maintaining cleanliness of the unit adhering to all State and Federal Rules and Regulations and Policies and Procedures.
    Demonstrates flexibility in performance of daily tasks as dictated by unit need.
    Participates with appropriate use of linen.
  • Inventory control
    Ensures that supplies/disposable items are ordered in a timely manner, maintaining appropriate stocks to provide for quality patient care while working within budgetary constraints.
    Works with the unit management team to facilitate ongoing development of the patient supply/equipment charging system.
    Completes charge audits on a consistent, ongoing basis ensuring accurate charges are entered on all patients.
  • Procurement
    Communicates with the unit management team on a routine basis to apprise them of current and completed projects.
    Notifies appropriate unit management team regarding availability of specific items.
    In collaboration with unit management team develops and implements action plans to address specific equipment issues.
    Assists nursing staff in implementing strategies related to availability/non-availability of equipment, supplies and instruments.
    Works with appropriate departments to establish par levels of stock and process orders/invoices as appropriate.
    Maintains open dialogue and documents requests from physicians and unit management team regarding supplies or special purchases.
    Appropriately updates unit management team with information related to the availability of new equipment/supplies designed to enhance the quality of patient care and of fiscal opportunities.
    Adjusts priorities/work schedule to meet changing needs of the unit and independently assists others.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have knowledge of technical equipment used in the department.
  • Computer skills to include keyboarding and knowledge of IDX System.
  • Must meet annual CNA competencies.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend medical terminology.
