A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A SALVAGE MATERIAL HANDLER ASSOCIATE
As a Salvage Material Handler Associate, you play a vital role in supporting our mission of providing employment-related services to the community by participating in all areas of moving donations between stores and warehouses. Every day is a little something different and offers both variety and routine!
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A SALVAGE MATERIAL HANDLER ASSOCIATE
The successful candidate must be at least 21 years of age and have at least 1 year of related driving experience. The Salvage Material Handler Associate will need to have valid Arizona Driver license and the driving record must meet requirements of insurance company to drive for us. The Salvage Material Handler will be able to obtain a DOT card, drive a two-ton truck, work flexible hours (including nights and weekends), and work in all weather conditions.
The position requires the ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours), bend, stoop, lift; push and pull a minimum of 50 pounds; reach overhead and operate equipment such as forklifts, lift gates, and hand trucks. The Salvage Material Handler will work around moving trucks and may be asked to drive trucks.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Know and demonstrate company values at all times.
  • Sort, stack and bale merchandise and places merchandise in the proper location.
  • Perform inventories of merchandise, equipment etc.
  • Assist Truck Drivers in backing up and parking trucks and trailers.
  • Load and unload trucks and trailers and place merchandise in proper location in the warehouse or yard.
  • Provide good customer service and professional image at all times. Provide donors with a receipt.
  • Handle merchandise safely while preserving its value.
  • Clean and maintain dock and dock area, trucks, trailers bale area and Cherrybell yard. Clean up work area at end of each shift.
  • Assist in security of Goodwill merchandise, equipment and property. Recognize all merchandise, equipment and property donated to or purchased by Goodwill is the property of Goodwill and is not to be taken, stolen, sold, given away or thrown away inappropriately.
  • Utilize safe, appropriate operation of lift gates, floor jack, and other material handling equipment. Operate equipment in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform truck driving duties as necessary.
  • Perform housekeeping duties; clean, straighten, sweep, mop, wash and dust.
  • Attend meetings and training as required.
  • Follow all policies and procedures, including safety procedures. Report accidents or injuries immediately.
  • Assist in other areas as requested.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Display work habits of regular attendance, punctuality, teamwork, initiative, willingness to learn, dependability, and promptness.
  • Actively promotes safety and loss prevention policies and reports issues immediately.
  • Answer incoming calls with a positive demeanor, using standard greeting.
  • Make store announcements periodically on overhead PA system.
  • Assist customers with fitting room access.
  • General housekeeping to include stocking merchandise, overs/unders, returns, sweeping, clean bathrooms, clean toppers and remerchandise as needed.
  • Attends and participates in monthly meetings, as required.
