Job Title: Material Handler – Receiving & Shipping

Job Description

The Material Handler – Receiving & Shipping plays a key role in the plant by safely receiving, processing, storing, and distributing metal materials. This full-time, first-shift position focuses on moving and locating inventory, pulling material from racks, packaging according to work orders or core shop knowledge, and supporting overall warehouse operations. The role requires consistent communication with team members and a strong commitment to safety, quality, and maintaining a clean, orderly work area.

Responsibilities

  • Complete basic, routine material handling tasks by following detailed instructions and established shop flow.
  • Pull and assemble orders accurately based on work orders, shipping orders, or other documentation.
  • Coordinate and execute material handling activities to support production, storage, and shipping needs.
  • Perform quality control inspections to verify that materials and orders meet required standards.
  • Sort and package parts as directed to prepare them for storage or shipment.
  • Tag material for proper identification and complete all required documentation accurately.
  • Complete work order paperwork and related documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Operate yard trucks, forklifts, and overhead cranes to safely load and unload trailers and move materials.
  • Conduct spot checks on inventory, including daily and ad hoc checks, to confirm proper tagging and identification of material.
  • Report any irregularities, issues, or discrepancies to a supervisor and follow given direction.
  • Adhere to and help ensure compliance with all applicable safety and quality standards and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area, including regular housekeeping of the warehouse and surrounding spaces.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and internal customers to support smooth operations.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor in support of plant and warehouse operations.

Essential Skills

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • 0–5 years of relevant experience in material handling, warehousing, shipping, receiving, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Adequate manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limbed coordination to safely handle materials and operate equipment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and apply them to work situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Basic measurement skills, including taking, converting, and using measurements of length, width, height, and weight to perform basic math computations correctly.
  • Basic arithmetic skills, including calculating and converting decimals and fractions.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize work, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on knowledge, experience, and judgment.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and 60 pounds repetitively.
  • Ability to push or pull up to 80 pounds of force.
  • Ability to stand for sustained periods of time throughout the shift.
  • Ability to repeatedly climb on and off truck trailers.
  • Ability to work in environments where temperatures may exceed 100°F or fall below 32°F.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, internal customers, and vendors.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification to operate all required motorized material handling and rigging equipment, including forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Basic computer proficiency and working knowledge of common software applications used in warehouse or production environments.

Work Environment

This role is based in a production and manufacturing plant environment with a focus on warehouse and material handling operations. Work is performed primarily on the first shift, Monday through Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The position involves regular use of material handling equipment such as forklifts (including sit-down forklifts), pallet jacks, yard trucks, and overhead cranes, as well as basic computer systems and warehouse software. The work area includes indoor and outdoor spaces where temperatures may exceed 100°F in warmer conditions and drop below 32°F in colder conditions. The environment is fast-paced and safety-focused, with an emphasis on following established procedures, maintaining a clean and orderly workspace, and using appropriate protective equipment and attire suitable for a production and warehouse setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr.
