Job purpose

Manage operators and area assets to execute production plan efficiently.

Duties and responsibilities


  • Model and always drive a safe environment and behavior.
  • Promote and deploy a quality culture within his team and peers.
  • Values promoter and assure personnel behaviors with values, reporting and notifying risk and opportunities
  • Responsible for meeting value stream metrics (safety, quality, efficiency, cost) establishing root cause and corrective actions for misses.
  • Follow Leader Standard Work and suggest improvements as necessary.
  • Promote and lead 6-S disciplines
  • Conduct material control disciplines
  • Execute production plan optimizing available operators, in accordance with the playbook, to maintain efficient operations.
  • Review production plan daily and make necessary arrangements for delivery of materials, fixtures, tooling, documentation, etc.
  • Develop cross training plan to have at least 2 people able to perform every defined task. Use Manufacturing Documentation to provide training to staff, as needed. Lead efforts to onboard new employees.
  • Conduct operations safely, in compliance with OSHA standards, complete safety inspections and safety talks as required.
  • Responsible to act to prevent process, product, or Quality System nonconformances and to recommend solutions.
  • Maintain accurate area inventory and Kanban levels.
  • Generate and share comprehensive and detailed reports about team performance, strategic objectives, and deadlines.
  • Communicate to supporting departments any opportunity that could affect the production output and/or product quality.
  • Report any incorrect/unsafe behavior or unethical practice taking disciplinary action as required.
  • Ensure team is conducting productive maintenance as outlined in TPM program.
  • Request and provide necessary manufacturing supplies in production area.
  • Perform annual employee evaluations.
  • Prepare reports, dashboards and records as required.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field and minimum 5 years’ experience as a manufacturing engineer OR
  • Associates degree in Engineering or related technical field plus 6 years of related experience
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum 11 years of directly related experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Aerospace and defense machining and manufacturing requirements (tight tolerance).
  • 3D Modeling: Solidworks
  • CAM: Mastercam/HSMworks
  • Ability to read and decipher drawings and procedures, and GD&T
  • Tooling documentation/library and tool life management
  • Training or certification in Six Sigma and Lean Principles
  • Experience in mechanical/hydraulic systems / Robotic automation a plus
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime and weekends as needed.

Working conditions


Exposure to shop elements making conditions less desirable than usually found in an office.


Physical requirements


  • Must be able to move, lift, transport items at minimum of 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to consistently operate a computer/office productivity machinery i.e., calculator, copy machine, printer for a minimum of 6 hours per day.
  • Must be able to remain stationary for a minimum of 2 hours per day.
  • Must be able to detect and correct errors on paper/screens.
  • Must be able to communicate and exchange information with other members of the organization verbally, nonverbally, and in writing.
  • Must be able to move throughout the facility and office area to access file cabinets, office equipment, plant machinery, and other office areas as needed.
