How does a matchmaker typically collaborate with clients to understand their preferences and ensure successful matches?

A Matchmaker works closely with clients through in-depth consultations to understand their values, lifestyle, and relationship goals. This often involves regular communication, personality assessments, and feedback sessions after introductions. Matchmakers act as both advisors and advocates, offering guidance throughout the dating process and adjusting search criteria based on client experiences. Collaboration is key, as ongoing dialogue helps refine matches and increases the likelihood of successful, lasting relationships.

What does a matchmaker do?

A matchmaker is a professional who helps individuals find compatible romantic partners. They get to know their clients' personalities, preferences, and relationship goals, and then use interviews, personality assessments, and their own network to suggest suitable matches. Matchmakers often provide coaching, feedback, and support throughout the dating process to help clients build successful relationships. They may work independently, for agencies, or specialize in certain types of clients.

How to become a matchmaker with no experience?

To become a matchmaker with no experience, start by developing strong interpersonal and communication skills, and learn about relationship dynamics. Gaining knowledge through online courses or certifications in dating or counseling can be helpful, and volunteering or assisting experienced matchmakers can provide practical insight into the profession.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a matchmaker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Matchmaker, you need strong interpersonal skills, a keen understanding of relationship dynamics, and typically some background in psychology, counseling, or social work. Familiarity with CRM software, matchmaking databases, and online dating platforms is commonly required, and some certifications in relationship coaching can be advantageous. Exceptional communication, active listening, and empathy help build trust with clients and facilitate successful matches. These skills are crucial for accurately assessing compatibility and fostering meaningful connections between clients.

What does a matchmaker do?

A professional matchmaker introduces their clients to partners with whom they could potentially develop a romantic relationship. Your duties involve assessing the personality traits of each client and finding out information about the qualities that they seek in a partner. You then match the client with potential partners who have the desired profile. You usually meet and interview each candidate to assess the chance of a romantic connection with your client. Job description

Know where you belong!
Match Group is a leading provider of dating products across the globe. Our portfolio includes Tinder, Hinge, Match, Meetic, PlentyOfFish, OkCupid, The League, HER, and others, each designed to spark meaningful connections for singles worldwide. Creating a sense of belonging doesn’t stop at our products - it’s the foundation of every team we hire.

When it comes to dating, the connection starts online, but the real magic happens once you meet in real life (IRL).  We think the same is true for creating the best platforms, so we work together IRL 3 days/week.

Our Accounting team is seeking a Director, Equity Accounting to serve as the definitive leader for the end-to-end accounting, valuation, and forecasting of our global equity incentive plans. This is a high-impact, Dallas-based role where you will act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, ensuring our complex equity structures are technically sound and compliant.

How you’ll make an impact:
  • Strategic Financial Ownership: Lead the end-to-end accounting, valuation, and forecasting for all global equity incentive plans. You are the definitive subject matter expert for ASC 718 and ASC 260 and the primary architect of the equity-related financial statement disclosures.

  • Executive Advisory & Board Reporting: Partner closely with the SVP of Financial Reporting, Legal Counsel, and the People Team. You will prepare and present high-level analysis on plan availability, burn rates, and the financial impact of proposed equity structures.

  • Global Mobility & Tax Compliance: Serve as the internal authority on the complexities of a modern workforce. You will oversee the logic for state and international mobility, ensuring that cross-border tax withholding and reporting are technically sound and compliant with local jurisdictions.

  • Advanced Forecasting & Modeling: Own the "Equity Crystal Ball." You will develop sophisticated models to forecast SBC expense, diluted shares impact, and cash flow requirements under multiple "what-if" scenarios.

  • Audit & Control Leadership: Set the standard for SOX compliance within the equity function. You will lead the relationship with external auditors, defending technical positions on valuations, and award modifications.

  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Act as the bridge between Finance, People/HR, and Legal. You will be the Accounting voice at the table providing insights into the accounting impact of daily decisions.

  • Team Mentorship: Directly manage and develop a Manager-level professional, fostering a culture of technical excellence, career growth, and extreme attention to detail.

  • Other Areas: ESPP, Section 16 filings

We may be a Match if:
  • Experience: 8-12+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 3-5+ years specifically focused on equity accounting.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting.

  • Certification: Active CPA is required.

  • Technical knowledge: Mastery of US GAAP, specifically ASC 718 and ASC 260

  • Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, critical thinking, and the ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.

Bonus Points:
  • Public accounting background

  • Certified Equity Professional

  • M&A experience with equity treatment

  • Shareworks and OneStream experience

  • SEC Reporting experience

The salary range for this position is $160,000 - $190,000. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary range is reflective of a position based in Dallas, TX. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.

Our Values
  • Take the Lead: We don't ghost our work or each other. Just as users don't leave their matches hanging, we don't let each other down.
  • Move Fast: We have a bias for action and urgency. Something that could be done tomorrow would be better if done today.
  • Better Together: We keep connection at the heart of dating and at the heart of how we work. Just as our users are better when they connect with others, so are we when we collaborate.
  • Real Talk: We say the hard thing the human way. Just as we ask our users to behave with kindness and candor in our community, we expect all of us to do the same.
  • Safety First: We act with integrity, transparency, and consistency so people feel safe—whether they're swiping, matching, or working alongside us.
  • Spark Fun: We have fun to unlock creativity, fuel innovation, and help us build better experiences for daters.
