Job description

Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is looking for an RN Clinical Educator Nursing to work with the Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU).

The Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU) is an 18-bed adult unit. MSICU provides specialized, multidisciplinary care for critically ill adult patients with complex medical conditions requiring advanced monitoring and life-sustaining therapies. The MSICU manages a wide range of diagnoses including sepsis and septic shock, acute respiratory failure, ARDS, severe pneumonia, COPD and asthma exacerbations, diabetic emergencies, gastrointestinal bleeding, renal failure requiring dialysis, toxicologic overdoses, neurologic emergencies, and multisystem organ failure.

Clinical Educator Job Responsibilities: 

  • Utilizes system strategies and tools to assess the competency of new nursing staff members while focusing on quality of care and patient safety goals. 
  • Integrates theoretical knowledge, evidence-based principles and clinical nursing expertise into educational experiences for both new and experienced team members. 
  • Prepares annual self-development plans, sets professional goals and seek opportunities for achieving them. 
  • Contributes to quality and safety initiatives across the organization.

This hybrid role integrates the responsibilities of a Clinical Educator and Clinical Mentor, delivering formal education, competency development, coaching, and individualized professional guidance to support clinician onboarding, foster evidence-based practice, promote ongoing professional growth, and advance excellence in patient care delivery.

Hours: Full-time, M-F (regular office hours, with some flexibility as needed based on department needs)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's Degree or BSN and enrolled in Master's program upon start. If RN has a BSN and enrolled in Master's program, RN must meet with their Nurse Leader within 3 months to conduct the following: 
    1. Provide a written plan with anticipated Masters completion date
    2. Submit a review of transcripts from the school indicating the required pre-requisites and timeline for taking the courses
    3. Complete Masters within 3 years of start date.
  • Experience: 2 years of progressive experience in nursing in designated specialty; 3 months of experience serving as preceptor
  • Certification: BLS from the American Heart Association; Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state RN License.
