Job description

Position summary:
Apply human resources expertise to provide a wide range of Human Resources (HR) support and advice to the staff. The successful candidate will play a key role in the success of the organization by executing the daily functions of the Human Resource department, including recruiting, compensation, employee relations, performance management, leave of absences, benefits, enforcing company policies and HR best practices while facilitating a positive relationship between personnel and leadership staff.
This position requires solid organizational and analytical skills, with a focus on attention to detail with strong background in Compliance and Labor Laws.
AS Human Resources Generalist you will be responsible for:
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, investigations and terminations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Serves as a back up to existing HR Generalists.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Experience with the organizations HRIS and talent management systems (Paycom).

Education and Experience
  • High School diploma with 8+ years' experience in Human Resources.
  • Associates degree with 3+years' experience in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field with 1-2 years' experience
  • Fluency in both verbal and written communication in Spanish a plus

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift to 5 pounds at times
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities
  • Strong understanding of the NYC homeless shelter system (including working knowledge

Compensation and Benefits
Base salary range and benefits information for this position are being included in accordance with requirements of New York State and City pay transparency laws. Please note that salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individuals' competencies, education/professional certifications, qualifications/experience, performance in the role.
Compensation
The base annual salary compensation range being offered for this role is $66,100.00.
