Job description
Position Time: Full Time (8:30am-5pm)
Company Overview
Rothman Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital is a leading surgical facility dedicated to providing exceptional orthopedic care. Our hospital is committed to delivering innovative, patient-centered treatment in a state-of-the-art environment, supported by highly skilled physicians and staff.
Job Summary
The Clinical Informatics Specialist bridges the gap between clinical floors and technical execution by analyzing, designing, configuring, and optimizing clinical information systems, with a primary focus on the Meditech Expanse EHR. This position requires regular rounding on clinical units to collaborate directly with staff, proactively identify workflow friction, and build, test, and maintain system configurations (including documentation screens, order sets, and preference cards) to maximize operational efficiency and patient safety. The ideal candidate possesses a clinical degree/licensure or an equivalent robust professional background in EHR clinical documentation build. Working within a lean and agile IT team, this hybrid role demands a team-first mindset and a willingness to handle everything from high-level clinical system optimization across multiple modules to routine Tier 1 helpdesk troubleshooting and a shared on-call rotation.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in a clinical, IT, or healthcare field required.
- Active clinical licensure (e.g., RN, DPT) strongly preferred; however, an equivalent track record of hands-on Meditech Expanse application build and system support will be accepted in lieu of licensure.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in clinical informatics, EHR system configuration, or a frontline clinical role within an inpatient surgical, operating room (OR), or orthopaedic setting.
- Minimum two (2) years of hands-on build, configuration, and support experience with Meditech Expanse Surgical (SUR), Patient Care (PCS), and Order Management (OM) modules.
- Strong understanding of perioperative workflows, rehabilitation services, and inpatient nursing documentation.
- Proven ability to translate frontline clinical workflows into functional system configurations, design specifications, and comprehensive test plans.
- Proven technical aptitude and willingness to handle general IT infrastructure, Tier 1 helpdesk workflows (such as password resets and hardware troubleshooting), and a shared on-call rotation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively across a lean, agile, small-team environment where priorities shift quickly.
- Ability to travel less than 10% of the time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EHR & CLINICAL WORKFLOW OPTIMIZATION
- Serve as the primary technical and workflow specialist for Meditech Expanse SUR, PCS, and OM modules, with a willingness to cross-train on adjacent modules.
- Conduct rounding on clinical units to collaborate directly with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and therapists to analyze, validate, and continuously improve workflows.
- Design, build, test, and maintain core clinical content, including provider order sets, surgical preference cards, and clinical documentation assessments, and care plans.
- Lead and participate in system testing and validation for upgrades, patches, and new feature implementations, ensuring clinical workflow integrity and patient safety are maintained.
PROJECTS & CLINICAL IMPLEMENTATION
- Act as the primary liaison between clinical departments and IT to translate clinical and operational needs into technical solutions.
- Manage or participate in clinical IT projects, including new system enhancements, module implementations, and integration initiatives.
- Deliver structured training and proactive "at-the-elbow" support to clinicians, including developing system documentation and end-user tip sheets to drive EHR adoption and best-practice use.
SYSTEM, DATA, & INTEGRITY
- Provide advanced troubleshooting for clinical end-users to resolve complex system-related issues, incidents, and requests in a timely manner.
- Support and troubleshoot clinical system integrations including PACS and third-party clinical applications.
- Collaborate with staff to identify reporting needs, validate clinical data, and ensure system configuration supports operational and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Adhere to all changes control policies and procedures for the building, testing, and promotion of changes to the live production environment.
TEAM COLLABORATION & GENERAL IT SUPPORT
- Actively participate in team meetings, share specialized knowledge with peers, and cross-train on other applications to support department redundancy and team goals.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Meditech Expanse functionalities, orthopaedic/surgical best practices, and emerging healthcare IT trends.
- Serve as a cooperative point of contact for IT helpdesk requests, managing and resolving Tier 1 issues (such as password resets, user accounts, and basic hardware troubleshooting) alongside clinical tickets.
- Participate in a shared on-call rotation, providing after-hours support for both clinical application and general IT infrastructure incidents.
- Carry out additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned to meet the evolving needs of the department.
WE OFFER:
- NO city wage tax
- FREE parking!
- Tuition reimbursement
- Benefit package
