Job description

Position Overview

Power your future with Qualus in our Engineering department as a Supervisor of Structural Engineering. In this role, the candidate will design and detail mat and pier type foundations for substation structures. Additionally, the candidate will design substation structures ranging from simple equipment supports to overhead line towers. All work will be performed with emphasis on quality and project costs following client's requirements and internal company's quality control and quality assurance practices.

The candidate may also complete substation designs, as necessary. Work will include applying applicable codes and client standards to design general arrangements, equipment and electrical layouts, elevation views, grading and fence plans, foundation plan and details, substation rigid bus arrangements, structure details, and bills of material.

Responsibilities
  • Develop overall conceptual design plans in the initial development phase of new projects.
  • Work with renewable energy developers and other clients with support specific to schedules and cost estimates.
  • Design foundations using commercially available software such as LPILE.
  • Develop steel structure models for rigid bus and equipment supports.
  • Perform company's Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with our external business partners; Present information and respond to questions from individual or groups of clients.
  • Direct and/or participate in client meetings/job site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data.
  • Mentor less experienced staff on a wide range of technical and project management skills.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors of Science or Masters in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • 10+ years of experience performing civil structural engineering calculations.
  • Proficient with drafting programs such as AutoCAD and MicroStation a plus. 
  • Professional Engineering certificate required
  • Experience in transmission, distribution and generating stations is a plus.
  • Must have strong analytical and computer skills. Must be able to identify necessary software to complete needed design work.
