Job description

Senior Maintenance and Reliability Engineer

Hayward, CA (onsite)

Provides engineering support to address plant issues that are impacting production over a short period of time. Provides technical expertise which may be equipment based or repair technique based that impacts the availability and maintainability of the facility. Requires expanded conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and broadens capabilities.
Responsibilities / Duties
- Serves as a subject matter expert in equipment failures and repair techniques during root cause investigations.
- Provides technical expertise to plant personnel on troubleshooting failures, repairs, and evaluating whether equipment is designed to meet its intended or existing service conditions.
- Provides maintenance and reliability input to Global Project Methodology activities.
- Supports the preventive maintenance coordinator, as required, in reviewing spare parts list for existing equipment.
- Provides equipment reliability and performance data to the technical resource networks for input into equipment purchasing requirements, evaluation of equipment performance, vendor performance, and modifications to MET.
- Supports implementation and management of site MRO spare parts management system.
- Uses maintenance spending, reliability, and maintenance metrics for assigned area. Understands objectives of the Facility Maintenance Strategy for assigned areas and relevant history of equipment failures.
- Analyzes impact of equipment failures on maintenance spending to identify improvement opportunities.
- Initiates reliability related MOCs and effectively implement change in own area of responsibility in coordination with appropriate leadership.
- Understands principles of Long Term Cost of Ownership. Analyzes and troubleshoots maintenance spending in assigned area with coaching.
- Creates Equipment Reliability Strategies based upon Top Opportunity List, Critical Equipment List, and identified plant/business needs.
- Evaluates and Optimizes PPM activities, on an on-going basis, to support overall productivity improvements.
- Identifies and resolve Top Reliability Opportunities and decrease equipment failure losses in order to meet the site Product Supply Reliability improvement goals for the given year.
- Facilitates the Reliability Team and implementation of the HRO principles within the unit, building strong partnerships and coaching/teaching as needed.
- Serves as manufacturing rep for capital project execution
Education
A Bachelor or Master Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. Mechanical Engineer preferred
Role expected to evolve into a dual function: Maintenance & reliability engineering
Capital project / project management support

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING STRONGLY PREFERED
Top Skills / Must-Haves:
Strong mechanical aptitude (rotating equipment, pumps, agitators, instrumentation)
Experience working with MRO systems (maintenance workflows, spare parts, etc.)
Exposure to capital projects / project management
Preferred Experience:
Chemical or manufacturing environment
Familiarity with maintenance processes (work orders, planning, execution)
Ideally 3-5 years experience, but flexible for strong candidates
Technical & Tools:
SAP preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Work Schedule & Conditions:
Schedule: Monday-Friday, ~6/7 AM - 2/3 PM (9/80 schedule)
Driving: Required (may use plant vehicle occasionally)
PPE: Standard plant PPE required including steel toes
TWIC card: Not required
Soft Skills:
Strong communication skills (internal and external stakeholders)
Ability to work with vendors
Comfortable providing updates via meetings and email
