Job description

Job Title: Master Locksmith
Pay Grade: 6
Salary: $60,588
Department: Operations
Reports to: Communication Center Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary:
The Master Locksmith is a highly skilled professional responsible for advancing services, including the installation, maintenance, repair, and design of mechanical and electronic locking systems. This role requires expert knowledge in security systems, key control, safe work, and access control, as well as the ability to lead, train, and advise on security best practices.
Responsibilities:
• Install, repair, rekey, and maintain a wide range of locking systems, including mechanical, electronic, and high-security locks, as well as doorknobs, door handles, and push bars
• Design and manage master key systems and key control programs
• Diagnose and resolve complex lock, door, safe, and access control issues
• Install and service safes, vaults, panic hardware, door closures, and security hardware
• Provide emergency lockout services and security response as needed
• Evaluate facilities for security risks and recommend appropriate solutions
• Maintain accurate records of keys, locks, and security systems
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, codes, and organizational policies
• Maintain tools, equipment, and inventory related to locksmith operations
• Collaborate with the Projects Management Department and Facilities Department to manage key access issues, including new construction, renovations, system upgrades, and operational changes
• Review project plans and specifications to ensure proper lock hardware, keying systems, and access control requirements are implemented
Skills & Requirements
Qualifications
• Master Locksmith certification or equivalent recognized credential
• Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive locksmithing experience
• Expert knowledge of locking systems, keying methods, and security hardware
• Proficiency with electronic access control systems and alarm integrations
• Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills
• Must be able to pass requirements for approval for an ATL badge with customs seal. This includes a 10-year background search by fingerprint analysis.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in commercial, institutional, and government facilities
• Familiarity with ADA, fire/life safety, and building code requirements
• Supervisory or leadership experience
• Strong customer service and communication skills
Working Conditions:
• Physical demands include bending, lifting, climbing, and tool usage
• Indoor and outdoor work in varying environments
