Dispatch Analyst Role Overview

The Dispatch Analyst is responsible for using analytics for optimizing the delivery network using ORTEC routing software to ensure safe, efficient, and on-time service. This role is critical in planning DSD routes to meet customer expectations in an optimized manner.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Routing & Planning
  • Build, optimize, and publish daily delivery routes using ORTEC based on volume, customer requirements, driver hours, equipment availability, and service windows.

  • Manage master data of outlets in assigned areas.

  • Validate route efficiency, miles, stops per hour, and time window compliance with planned standards.

Dispatch & Execution
  • Dispatch drivers daily and provide clear route, stop, and service expectations.

  • Collaborate with sales and distribution to meet/exceed customer delivery expectations.

  • Serve as first point of contact for regions during the day.

  • Ensure compliance with DOT Hours of Service planning, company safety policies, and customer delivery requirements, master data settings.

  • Escalate safety, service, or master data issues appropriately.

Coordination & Communication
  • Partner with warehouse, sales, and customer service teams to align load readiness and delivery priorities.

  • Communicate service delays or exceptions to internal stakeholders.

  • Support contingency planning during weather events or operational disruptions.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement
  • Review daily performance metrics (time window compliance, route adherence, utilization, miles, Plan vs Actual).

  • Identify routing improvement opportunities within ORTEC (zone design, stop sequencing, load balancing).

  • Support ongoing optimization and system parameter improvements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business analytics, computer science, or related field.

  • Two (2) or more years of data analytics experience required.

  • Dispatching, routing, or transportation operations experience.

  • Hands-on experience with ORTEC routing and optimization software preferred.

  • Strong understanding of delivery operations, DOT/HOS, and driver workflows.

  • Ability to make quick decisions in a dynamic, time-sensitive environment.

  • Strong communication and organization skills.

  • Enjoys solving problems.

  • Has a continuous improvement mindset.
