Job description

Summary
The Springfield Thunderbirds are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and friendly Retail Associate for all game nights during the 2026-27 American Hockey League season. This Game Night position will provide individuals with the chance to gain relevant sports and retail/merchandise experience working at the MassMutual Center for all Springfield Thunderbirds home games. To excel in this role, a qualified candidate must have high attention to detail, a strong work ethic, be outgoing, and willing to talk to people. This position reports to the Senior Manager of Brand Development & Merchandise and Retail Merchandise Assistant.
Essential Functions
  • Responsible for answering customer questions and providing assistance to customers at point of sale (POS) system.
  • Be familiar with store merchandise to speak knowledgeably to customers, be willing to learn about special items we carry such as jerseys differences and sizing along with vendor recognition.
  • Assist with store merchandising, product display, inventory levels, and store cleanliness.
  • Always maintain a professional attitude and appearance. Following all expectations of work schedule and policies.
  • Perform all duties as assigned, and being proactive in asking for assistance. Being able to be self-sufficient and reliable when asked to complete a task.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Point of Sale Terminal (POS) system experience preferred.
  • Ability to address and resolve customer issues.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn and push selling points of product.
  • Ability to maintain focus and work ethic while working in a fast paced, crowded, and often changing team environment.

Work Environment:
  • The environment will consist of being around loud stadium noises and crowds.
  • Candidates must be able to perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving boxes up to 30 pounds.
  • Candidate must be able to stand and walk for lengthy periods of time.

Work Authorization/ Security Clearance Requirements
  • Have own transportation or a means to get to and from MassMutual Center. (We are on a bus route)

Compensation: This position will pay $15.00 an hour.
Schedule: September 18, 2026 through April 29, 2027.
Hours: Hours will be based on the 37-game home schedule, with approximately 12 hours per week, including nights and weekends, with more or fewer hours as needed per week.
For Big E, hours will range from 12-18 hours per week for three weeks (Sep 18-Oct 4) , with varying times each day and night. Shifts will be approximately 6 hours each.
