The Construction Technician 3 is responsible for applying their knowledge and experience to support the Construction Services segment in delivering above standard and within budget projects within the agreed upon timeline.

Essential Functions

  • Inputs data into pre-written computer programs
  • Operates computer and runs reports or calculations
  • Interprets construction plans and specifications
  • Observes construction operations on various sites to assess conformance to plans and specifications
  • Peruses and prepares proposals for potential projects and marketing events
  • Performs construction materials testing
  • Communicates effectively with other staff, contractor personnel, and client representatives
  • Participates in technical training sessions and achieves various certifications associated with construction inspection, as well as renewing held certifications
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently when required, but also as part of a team on larger projects
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential issues, takes steps to determine solutions, and implements selected steps
  • Seeks and accepts increasing levels of responsibility
  • Trains other Construction Technicians as necessary

Experience

  • 5+ yearsโ€™ experience with construction inspection or construction trades
  • Established knowledge of federal, state, and local codes and ordinances, building codes, construction materials (such as); soil, concrete, rebar layout, masonry, steel, etc. relevant to projects involving roadway/paving, pipe-lines, renovations, bridge, tunnels, drainage, and materials verification/design
  • Must be able to set up, track, file and organize client emails and communications for project backup

Skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Delivers exceptional customer service
  • Has a reliable personal vehicle that is available for daily use to travel to job sites
  • Well-organized and demonstrated interpersonal relations skillsย 
  • Physical working requirements:
    • Ability to do occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
    • Able to walk up/down stairs
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
    • Subject to outside environmental conditionsย 

Education

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • KDOT Inspection certification required
  • Additional experience in engineering, drafting, survey, and/or construction management is a plus
