How much do masonry helper jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 16, 2026, the average hourly pay for masonry helper in Oregon is $21.03, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $18.80 and $22.12 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the most common challenges faced by Masonry Helpers on construction sites?

Masonry Helpers often encounter challenges such as working in varying weather conditions, managing physically demanding tasks like lifting heavy materials, and maintaining safety standards on active construction sites. They may also need to adapt quickly to changing project priorities and collaborate closely with masons and other trades to keep projects on schedule. Developing strong communication and teamwork skills can help Masonry Helpers navigate these challenges and contribute effectively to the team.

What are Masonry Helpers?

Masonry Helpers assist skilled masons by performing tasks such as mixing mortar, carrying materials, cleaning work areas, and setting up scaffolding. They help ensure that masonry projects like building walls, sidewalks, and other structures run smoothly and efficiently. Masonry Helpers also handle tools, prepare surfaces, and support the overall construction process under the supervision of experienced masons.

What type of masonry makes the most money?

In masonry, specialized skills such as stone masonry or high-end decorative work tend to be more lucrative than basic bricklaying. Master masons with certifications and experience in complex projects often earn higher wages, especially in commercial or historic restoration work.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

Masonry helpers typically do not earn $4,000 a week; high earnings in construction roles usually require experience, specialization, or union membership. Skilled trades such as union carpenters or electricians can reach that level with experience and certifications, but entry-level masonry helper positions generally pay less. Achieving such high weekly pay often involves overtime, bonuses, or working in high-demand environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Masonry Helper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Masonry Helper, you need basic construction knowledge, physical stamina, and the ability to follow instructions, typically supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with hand tools, power mixers, material handling equipment, and safety gear is essential. Dependability, attention to detail, and teamwork help individuals excel in supporting masons efficiently. These skills and qualities ensure safe, timely, and high-quality completion of masonry projects.

What does a masonry helper do?

A masonry helper assists masons by preparing materials, mixing mortar, cleaning work areas, and carrying bricks or stones. They often work outdoors in construction environments and may need to follow safety protocols and use basic tools under supervision.
