What is a martech developer?

A Martech Developer is a technology professional who specializes in building, integrating, and maintaining marketing technology (Martech) solutions. They work with tools and platforms such as customer relationship management (CRM) systems, email marketing software, analytics platforms, and automation tools to help organizations optimize their marketing strategies. Martech Developers bridge the gap between marketing and IT by ensuring that marketing campaigns are both technically sound and data-driven. Their responsibilities may include customizing platforms, managing APIs, implementing tracking solutions, and ensuring seamless data flow between systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a martech developer?

To thrive as a Martech Developer, you need strong proficiency in web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), APIs, and data integration, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with marketing automation platforms (like Salesforce Marketing Cloud, HubSpot, or Adobe Experience Cloud), tag management systems, and certifications in relevant technologies are highly valuable. Strong problem-solving skills, communication, and the ability to collaborate with both marketing and IT teams help you excel in this role. These skills ensure seamless implementation of marketing technologies, enabling organizations to optimize campaigns and achieve business goals efficiently.

How do martech developers typically collaborate with marketing teams to implement and optimize campaigns?

Martech Developers work closely with marketing teams to translate campaign goals into technical solutions, such as setting up tracking pixels, integrating analytics platforms, or customizing marketing automation tools. • Own the technical roadmap, architecture, and standards for the MarTech services and systems.

Job description

Know where you belong!
Match Group is a leading provider of dating products across the globe. Our portfolio includes Tinder, Hinge, Match, Meetic, PlentyOfFish, OkCupid, The League, HER, and others, each designed to spark meaningful connections for singles worldwide. Creating a sense of belonging doesn’t stop at our products - it’s the foundation of every team we hire.

When it comes to dating, the connection starts online, but the real magic happens once you meet in real life (IRL).  We think the same is true for creating the best platforms, so we work together IRL 3 days/week.

About the team

The Marketing Technology (MarTech) team is a newly formed team building the measurement, attribution, and operations infrastructure that powers user acquisition across Match Group's portfolio of dating apps: Tinder, Hinge, Match, Chispa, The League, Plenty of Fish, and more.

Our charter spans the full path: the marketing and attribution SDKs embedded in the apps, the server-side event delivery that feeds our ad platforms and warehouse, and the tooling marketers use to run campaigns, manage creative, and sync audiences.

About the role

We're hiring a senior, versatile engineer who can work across both mobile platforms (iOS and Android) and the backend / full stack. You'll be hands-on in the apps, instrumenting them and building the server-side services behind them, as well as on the marketing operations tooling our teams run on. This is a rare full-spectrum role for someone who genuinely likes owning a feature from the client SDK all the way to the server.

This is a founding-engineer opportunity. Because the team is early and serves the entire Match Group portfolio, you'll set its technical direction and standards, make the early architecture decisions the rest of the team will build on, and help shape and grow the team as it scales. You'll also help power our move toward more AI-native marketing operations, building the tooling and agent-ready infrastructure that lets our marketers work in fundamentally new ways. As one of the senior technical voices on the team, the work you do here has outsized reach across every brand in the portfolio.

Most of all, we're looking for someone who's genuinely passionate about marketing technology: you're excited by attribution, measurement, and the systems that make marketing work, and you want to go deep on the domain rather than treat it as just another stack.

What you'll work on:

You'll operate as a senior technical leader here, owning the bigger picture while staying hands-on across the team's work. You'll move between these areas as priorities shift:

Owning the bigger picture

  • Building the technical roadmap for our central MarTech services

  • Defining the architecture other engineers build against

  • Setting the engineering standards for the team

  • Identify opportunities for new systems or capabilities within existing systems.

MarTech implementation - keeping our foundational MarTech stack on the clients healthy and well-maintained:

  • Marketing and attribution event instrumentation in our iOS and Android apps

  • Privacy and consent handling

  • Event delivery that feeds our attribution partners, ad platforms, and data warehouse

Marketing operations tooling - architecting the platforms and services marketers and analysts run on:

  • Programmatic ad-platform management

  • Marketing tooling such as creative management systems and audience syncing

  • AI/agent-driven workflows and MCP’s

What we're looking for:
  • 6+ years building and shipping production software, with strong experience on iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin), including SDK integration and the App Store / Play Store release lifecycles

  • Solid full-stack / backend chops: building and operating APIs and server-side services in a modern language (e.g. Node, Python, Go, or Kotlin)

  • A track record of setting technical direction, making sound architecture decisions under ambiguity, and raising the bar for the engineers around you

  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and working with a data warehouse

  • Comfort owning work end to end and moving freely between clients and the backend

  • Demonstrated ability to take ambiguous or unowned problems  and drive them to resolution

  • Active, effective use of AI tooling (Claude Code, Copilot, etc.) to ramp on unfamiliar code and ship faster

  • Experience building MCP servers/tools, or a strong interest in doing so, to expose our platforms to Claude and other agents

  • Clear communication: you'll work directly with marketers and analysts, not just engineers

Nice to have:
  • Experience with marketing / attribution SDKs (AppsFlyer, Firebase, Adjust, Branch), SKAdNetwork, and the Google Play Install Referrer API
  • Ad-platform APIs (Meta, Google Ads, TikTok) and server-side tracking (Meta CAPI, server-side GTM)

  • Experience building LLM-powered or agentic tooling, including MCP

  • MarTech / AdTech domain background

The salary range for this position is $225,000 - $250,000.  Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary range is reflective of a position based in Palo Alto, California. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
