Job description

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the Maintenance Team Lead, the custodian is responsible for independently providing exceptional custodial services to ensure cleanliness of the facility and grounds in harmony with the mission statement and policies of the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Must have the ability to work independently using written and verbal instructions to carry out custodial tasks.
  2. Must have the ability to read product labels and use products appropriately to protect safety and efficacy.
  3. Cleans and sanitizes sinks, toilets, showers, restrooms, floors, walls, windows, and other assigned areas of building.
  4. Empties waste containers, which include inside and outside of the building.
  5. Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies. Reports cases of supply stock problems.
  6. Assist in proper disposal of biohazard materials.
  7. Assist with general pool area cleanliness.
  8. Performs various duties such as dusting and maintaining entrances and offices.
  9. Clean and sanitize fitness equipment when needed.
  10. Reports building problems.
  11. Performs sidewalk/exterior clean up. Dispose of trash.
  12. Monitor licensed program spaces to meet regulations. These include preschool and summer day camp.
  13. Set up furniture for special events.
  14. Assist with general building setup and informational displays including the outdoor marquee.
  15. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
  16. Exemplifies the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all aspects of job performance and in relationships with others.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
  2. Six months or more related experience is preferred.
  3. Must have the physical ability to reach, bend, and stretch, and climb, and be able to lift or carry 30 pounds.
  4. Must be able to use equipment and chemicals in a prescribed manner, including ability to read labels, MSDS information sheets and instructions.
  5. Candidates must also have ability to carry out instructions independently, meaning possess discernment of priorities and attend to cleaning zones either scheduled or reactive.
  6. Must have the ability to stay alert to potential safety and security problems and to think and act quickly in emergency situations.
