About the Role:
As Principal Product Manager, Subscriber Activation and Retention, you will own the product responsible for showing new customers the value of their subscription, building the habits that keep them engaged, and giving them compelling reasons to stay subscribed across The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, MarketWatch, and beyond. You will own the in-life subscriber lifecycle end to end, from onboarding and activation through retention, save offers, upsell, and winback, across web and mobile app surfaces that reach millions of subscribers. You will lead a team of product managers and work closely with marketing, engineering, design, and subscription strategy to set direction, run experiments, and ship work that directly protects and grows recurring revenue. You will report to the VP of Product - Commerce.

With a keen focus on delivering cutting-edge solutions, we shape the digital landscape for our customers, readers and users. From revolutionizing visuals to optimizing tools and harnessing the power of data, mobile, video and social platforms, our team is committed to providing a seamless and immersive experience across all touchpoints. Collaborating closely with our newsrooms and strategic partners, we spearhead the development of groundbreaking products and technologies.
You Will:
  • Work with marketing and subscription business stakeholders to define and execute the long-term product strategy for the in-life subscriber lifecycle across web and mobile app platforms
  • Lead and develop a team of product managers as a player-coach
  • Own prioritization and trade-offs across a complex multi-brand, multi-surface portfolio (WSJ, Barron's, MarketWatch; web and native mobile apps), driving alignment with engineering, design, marketing, data science, and senior leadership
  • Run a rigorous experimentation program, using A/B testing and funnel analysis to drive measurable outcomes across activation, engagement, save, and winback experiences.
  • Own the strategy for core retention systems and tooling
  • Exhibit strong product judgment on high-impact decisions, balancing retention and revenue goals with subscriber experience and long-term brand health

You Have:
  • At least 8 years' of product management experience with a focus on subscriber retention, engagement, subscription, or direct-to-consumer products
  • A track record of managing and developing product managers, including hiring, coaching, and performance management
  • Proven ability to use AI tools to improve the quality and velocity of your work, while coaching the people around you to do the same
  • Deep expertise in experimentation and data-driven decision making
  • Ability to engage in detailed discussions with engineering, understand subscription and messaging system architecture, and make product decisions informed by technical feasibility
  • A track record of influencing VP-level and above stakeholders and communicating product strategy, trade-offs, and business impact to executive audiences.
  • A strong understanding of subscriber lifecycle metrics
  • Knowledge of digital media and subscription businesses
  • Experience with native mobile app product and platforms such as Braze or Piano (a plus)
