As a member of Northern Trust's Legal Department, this paralegal will be primarily responsible for supporting the Banking and Markets Group attorneys and their business partners on a wide range of banking-related matters in a manner consistent with Northern Trust's enduring principles of Service, Expertise and Integrity . The position reports to a member of the Banking and Markets Group leadership team.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Documents non-standard private client and commercial loans using standard templates;
  • Assists in updating and maintaining standard banking-related templates;
  • Manages timely and appropriate response to requests for non-standard client verification letters;
  • Assists with reviewing and negotiating confidentiality agreements;
  • Assists with intake and triage of banking legal requests and notices;
  • Assists with tracking and managing loan party death matters, including notifications and probate-related filings and follow-up;
  • Supports Banking and Markets Group attorneys on bank regulatory matters;
  • Researches matters in support of Banking and Markets Group attorneys; and
  • Participates in other corporate initiatives, as requested.
Skills/Experience Required
The ideal candidate would have the following skills and experience:
  • Understanding of documentation requirements for secured and unsecured lending;
  • Experience in loan document preparation using standard templates;
  • Ability to provide paralegal support on a wide range of banking and other legal matters;
  • Research skills sufficient to conduct in-depth research using legal search engines;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively on teams and manage relationships with attorneys and business partners at all levels of the organization; and
  • Interest and enthusiasm about involvement in emerging legal and/or regulatory issues.
Qualifications/Experience
  • Paralegal certificate; and
  • Minimum 5 years of experience at a nationally recognized law firm and/or in-house legal department providing paralegal services in relevant areas.
Working Model: Hybrid (

Salary Range:
$74,200 - 126,200 USD
Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
