Customer Analyst - Customer Insights & Analytics
JCPenney

We are seeking a Customer Insights Analyst to transform customer, transaction, product, loyalty, and marketing data into actionable insights that drive customer growth, engagement, retention, and overall business performance. This role combines traditional customer analytics with AI, advanced analytics, and modern data technologies to identify customer trends, develop actionable segmentation, improve targeting, and support data-driven marketing strategies.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Analyze customer, transaction, product, loyalty, campaign, and digital/channel data to identify trends, opportunities, and risks.
• Develop customer insights around acquisition, retention, reactivation, churn, customer value, purchase behavior, and engagement.
• Build and maintain customer segments, profiles, behavioral cohorts, and propensity-based audiences to support marketing and customer strategies.
• Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for Marketing, CRM, Merchandising, Digital, Loyalty, and other business stakeholders.
• Leverage AI and machine learning techniques to identify patterns, predict customer behavior, automate analysis, and improve decision-making.
• Use generative AI and AI-assisted analytics tools to accelerate exploratory analysis, reporting, insight generation, and analytical workflows.
• Partner with data engineering and technology teams to leverage modern cloud data platforms and ensure customer data is accurate, accessible, and fit for analysis.
• Develop recurring dashboards, reports, and self-service analytical solutions that enable business teams to monitor customer KPIs and trends.
• Conduct campaign and audience analytics, including measurement of customer response, conversion, incremental behavior, and ROI.
• Perform ad hoc analyses to answer strategic business questions and support data-driven decision-making.
• Identify opportunities to automate manual reporting and analytical processes using AI, Python, SQL, and modern data technologies.
• Support development and implementation of customer analytics use cases within a Customer Data Platform (CDP) environment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define business requirements, validate data, and ensure analytical outputs meet business needs.
Core Competencies & Accomplishments:
• Bachelor's degree in Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Marketing Analytics, Economics, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in customer analytics, marketing analytics, business intelligence, or a related analytical role.
• Strong SQL skills and experience working with large, complex datasets.
• Experience analyzing customer and transactional data and translating findings into business recommendations.
• Proficiency in Python and/or PySpark for data analysis and automation.
• Experience working with Databricks or similar cloud-based data platforms.
• Working knowledge of AI/ML concepts and generative AI tools, with the ability to apply AI to analytical and business problems.
• Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms.
• Strong understanding of customer segmentation, customer lifecycle, retention, acquisition, and behavioral analytics.
• Strong communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to present analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
