Work Arrangement: This full-time role follows an in-office schedule, with an expectation of working on-site in Glastonbury, CT, with limited flexibility as needed.


The Risk Advisor, Large Commercial Lines, is responsible for generating new business and expanding client relationships within the property & casualty commercial marketplace. This role focuses on identifying and cultivating large, complex accounts, delivering strategic risk solutions, and partnering with internal resources to provide a superior client experience. The Risk Advisor drives revenue growth through proactive prospecting, strong market expertise, and a consultative sales approach tailored to sophisticated commercial clients.


Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a pipeline of large commercial prospects through proactive outreach, networking, and market engagement to achieve sales goals.
  • Develop tailored risk strategies and insurance solutions for complex commercial clients.
  • Collect detailed risk and underwriting information including survey data and loss history.
  • Lead the sales process from prospecting to close, including presentations, proposals, and negotiation.
  • Strengthen relationships with carriers and underwriting partners to secure competitive program options.
  • Participation in Sales Team Meetings, workshops, and events expected.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely CRM entries to ensure full visibility and accountability throughout the sales process.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, carrier marketing, service, risk management, claims, and specialty practices, etc. to deliver an exceptional client experience.
  • Develop cross lead opportunities for other products within Smith Brothers.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of market trends, industry risks, and coverage innovations within large commercial P&C.
  • Stay informed and help resolve any client issues when needed.
  • Expand and retain a profitable book of business through ongoing client relationship management.
  • Actively participate in renewal strategy and client review meetings to support strong retention and ensure clients remain protected, satisfied, and committed year over year.
  • Represent the agency at industry events, associations, and networking opportunities to drive brand presence and lead generation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Stay current on industry trends, products, and regulatory changes.
  • Follow department and agency defined processes, procedures, and workflows.
  • Use the agency management system for daily work, documentation, and tasks, while following agency processes, confidentiality standards, and quality expectations.
  • Take on projects and other work as assigned.
  • Participate in ongoing development.
  • Use Microsoft Office, business tools, and AI solutions (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT) to work efficiently.

Qualifications

  • 3 - 5+ years of large P & C insurance experience in a sales focused role, at independent agency preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, risk management, or related field preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Active Property & Casualty Insurance license in good standing.
  • Prior experience in prospecting, building a pipeline, and closing new business.
  • Experience working with carriers, underwriting, carrier marketing, coverage placement, and service teams.
  • Knowledge of risk management, insurance products, market dynamics, and consultative sales processes.

  • Offsite client, network, and prospect meetings require non-standard normal working hours – expect evening events and travel as normal course of business.
