Job description

Job Summary:
Under limited supervision, measures pupil distance and bridgewidth, adjusts eyeglass frames and assist patients in selecting optical items to conform with corresponding optical prescriptions and establishedprocedures. Essential Responsibilities:
  • Assists patient with optical selections.
  • Recommends and displays various designs, colors, and shapes of eyeglass frames available and compatible to patients prescription and facial features.
  • Quotes prices from fee schedules.
  • Neutralizes spectacles with lensometer and performs measurements with pupilometer, distometer, and other progressive optical measuring devices.
  • Records frame, lens specification and other related items such as non-prescribed dark glasses and cleaning fluids.
  • Examines glasses received from laboratory to insure conformority with prescription.
  • Verifies prescription with lensometer.
  • Modifies lenses to fit frames and adjusts frames to fit patients facial features with hand tools and related equipment as required.
  • Repairs and adjusts lens frames as requested by patients using standard hand tools and related equipment.
  • Orders or fabricates lost pair of eyeglasses to include using automatic lens edging unit, hand edger, lens layout maker, and lens tinting unit.
  • Performs other duties as required such as ordering optical supplies, assisting with periodic inventories, responding to complaints regarding lens and frame fit. Equipment Utilized: Lens analyzer, lensometer, distometer, pupilometer, hand edger, automatic edger, pattern maker, layout marker, optical hand tools used to adjust metal and plastic frames.
  • Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.
  • Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
  • American Board of Opticianry (ABO) Certification plus (1) year recent experience or two (2) years equivalent experience under direction of a Licensed Optician, Optometrist, or Ophthalmologist performing Optometry Dispenser work required.

  • Ability to use Humphrey Lens Analizer, conventional lensometer, pupilometer, distometer, progressive lens measuring devices, hand edger, salt-pan, lens tinting, unit, automatic pattern maker unit, automatic lens edging unit and lens layout procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with the public.
  • Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to correctly measure for, prepare order and fit ophthalmic eyeglass lenses of all types including cataract and progressive power lenses.
  • Ability to adjust and correctly fit metal and plastic eyewear frames.
