JOB STATEMENT: The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for driving sales growth, brand development, and market execution for Legacy Fine Wines & Spirits throughout an assigned California territory. As a dedicated overlay sales professional, the BDM partners with the Classic Wines & Spirits sales organization to accelerate growth for legacy’s portfolio of premium win and luxury spirits. The role combines strategic planning, supplier partnership, customer engagement, education, and execution to deliver measurable results.

Business Development Manager are responsible for achieving territory revenue, gross profit, distribution, and supplier objectives while serving as trusted advisors to both customers and Supplier partners.


Essential Duties:

Business Development:

  • Achieve annual sales and gross profit objectives
  • Develop and execute territory business plans
  • Identify new distribution opportunities and expand market share
  • Drive growth in premium wine, luxury spirits and key strategics brands.

Supplier Partnership:

  • Conduct joint market visits and supplier ride -along
  • Develop annual business plans and execute quarterly business reviews
  • Provide competitive market intelligence and sales insights

Sales Execution:

  • Partner with the Classic Wines & Spirits sales organization on customer call
  • Execute supplier programs, promotions, and strategic initiatives
  • Conduct product education, staff training, and customer tasting.
  • Secure new placements and increase distribution

Territory Management:

  • Maintain a disciplined call schedule and in-person visits
  • Forecast monthly and quarterly sales performance
  • Analyze sales trends and identify growth opportunities
  • Track KPIs and communicate results to leadership


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience
  • Minimum 5 years of beverage alcohol sale experience
  • Strong knowledge of premium wine and luxury spirits
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel extensively through the assigned territory


Preferred:

  • Existing relationships within California’s premium on-premises and off-premises channels.
  • WSET, Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW), Certified Specialist of Spirits (CSS), Court of Master Sommeliers, or similar industry certifications
  • Experience conducting supplier business reviews of sales planning

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequent forward reach
  • Frequent walking/sitting
  • Sit for an extensive period of time / driving to accounts and team meetings
  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Perform data entry tasks using standard computer equipment and cell phone
  • Use hands to grasp, feel, move, reach or assemble
  • Expressing ideas/instructions through spoken words (accurately, loudly)

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

  • Side shield safety glasses, safety vest, head/ear protection and proper footwear when in production facility
