NCCCO Certified Crane Operator
Job Summary:
An NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators) Certified Crane Operator is responsible for safely operating cranes and lifting equipment to move, position, and place materials on construction sites, industrial facilities, shipyards, and other work locations. The operator must maintain compliance with safety regulations, load charts, and NCCCO certification requirements while ensuring efficient lifting operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate mobile, tower, crawler, rough-terrain, or overhead cranes safely and efficiently.
- Inspect cranes and lifting equipment before, during, and after operation.
- Read and interpret load charts, lift plans, and job specifications.
- Perform pre-operational safety checks and routine maintenance inspections.
- Communicate effectively with riggers, signal persons, supervisors, and site personnel.
- Lift, move, and position heavy materials according to project requirements.
- Identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA and site-specific safety standards.
- Monitor crane performance and report mechanical issues or defects.
- Maintain accurate inspection and operational records.
- Follow all NCCCO certification standards and company procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Current NCCCO Crane Operator Certification.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid driver's license; CDL may be required for some positions.
- Knowledge of crane operation, rigging practices, and load calculations.
- Understanding of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.
- Ability to read blueprints, lift plans, and load charts.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience operating hydraulic, crawler, rough-terrain, all-terrain, or tower cranes.
- Previous construction, industrial, marine, or heavy equipment experience.
- Additional certifications such as rigging, signalperson, or OSHA 10/30.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, climb, and work at heights for extended periods.
- Good vision, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Capability to lift and carry equipment and perform physical tasks as needed.
Work Environment
NCCCO Crane Operators typically work on construction sites, industrial plants, shipyards, ports, oil and gas facilities, and infrastructure projects. Work may involve long hours, shift work, and exposure to outdoor conditions.
