Introduction

Shellfish Division Director / Program Manager IV\r\n\r\n\r\nThis position is a Management Services position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.\r\n

LOCATION OF POSITION

Annapolis, Maryland (Anne Arundel County)\r\n

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to supervise, direct and manage the Shellfish Division\r\nwithin the Fishing and Boating Services Unit (FABS), with the major goal of increasing oyster\r\npopulations for their economic value to the fishery and their ecological value to the Bay. Another\r\nmain purpose is to develop policy recommendations to senior staff, up to the Secretary, for the\r\nmanagement and restoration of oysters and other shellfish (soft clams, hard clams, razor clams\r\nand scallops).\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of thisposition is to supervise, direct and manage the Shellfish Division within the Fishing and Boating Services Unit(FABS), with the major goal of increasing oyster populations for their economic value to the fishery and their ecological value to the Bay. This position supervises four major programs in the Division. 1) Restoration - the oyster sanctuary program. 2) Fishery - the commercial oyster and clam fisheries. 3) Hatchery - oyster hatchery at Piney Point MD. 4) Monitoring - the survey program that annually monitors oysters and clams.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an environmental science, biology, or natural resources planning, management, or development.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience: Six years of experience in natural resources planning, applied environmental science, fisheries management and/or marine sciences.\r\n\r\n\r\nNotes:\r\n\r\n\r\n1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a natural resources planning, management, administration, development, environmental system management; water or land resources planning and management; or the physical, chemical, biological or environmental sciences for up to two years of the required experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in natural resources planning, management, administration, development, environmental system management; water or land resources planning and management; or the physical, chemical, biological or environmental sciences for up to four years of the required experience.\r\n\r\n

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n A minimum of 2 years of experience supervising staff in the field of natural resources or data management.\r\n Two years of professional experience working with natural resource stakeholder groups.\r\n \r\n\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n Two years of professional experience in the following areas: meeting facilitation / coordination, outreach and public speaking.\r\n Two years of professional experience in managing budgets, hiring, fiscal management, organizational management, and administration.\r\n Two years of professional experience working with other State and Federal agencies.\r\n \r\n\r\n
