Job description

Position Overview:
Postdoctoral Research positions are available through the NIH-Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award (IRACDA) program. This comprehensive program offers 1 year of support to outstanding candidates seeking postdoctoral research training along with an opportunity to obtain mentored teaching experience in a Predominantly Undergraduate Institution in preparation for an academic career.
Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
PhD (or foreign equivalent) in a biological/biomedical field related to Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) conferred by the time of hire or by August 31, 2026. Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident as per sponsor's (National Institutes of Health) guidelines.
* Per sponsor guidelines, candidates must be early in their postdoctoral stage, with no more than 2 years from the date of their doctoral degree. *** Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident as per sponsor's (National Institutes of Health) guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in other diversity programs either as an undergraduate or graduate.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity in the academy.
  • Experience and/or commitment to teaching on the college level.
  • A first-author publication accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in a biological/biomedical field related to Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM). The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.
Duties:
  • Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research experiments in a biological/biomedical field. Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related field to analyze the collected data. Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing. Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.
  • The Postdoctoral Associate will take part in pedagogic and professional development training provided through the NIH IRACDA NY-CAPS Program
  • Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.
