MANUFACTURING ENGINEER
JOB SUMMARY:
Development of assembly processes based on customer requirements, quality systems , financial investment and labor plans. Manage the implementation of new processes, selection of equipment to be purchased, and timing estimates. Resolve issues with quality plans, product design, manufacturability, or build process steps. Participate in adoption of new technologies and processes to achieve greater efficiency. Consults on and oversees selection and implementation of automation and robotics in assembly processes. Manages activities using the Process Development System according to the developed ME timeline.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop detailed manufacturing plans for new programs that will require new equipment or retool of existing equipment.
  • Prepare all sourcing activities from RFQ to PO for any major outside tooling and equipment purchases (i.e.; continuity testers, alignment equipment, balancers, uniformity equipment, etc).
  • Gather all relevant product information, production rates and assembly requirements from customer contacts.
  • Prepare equipment operators by assisting launch team with training; providing reference and support resources.

  • Maintain process integrity by developing and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines.
  • Monitor / Support plant with equipment installation and launch.
  • Review all sourcing activities from RFQ to PO for any major outside tooling and equipment purchases (i.e.; continuity testers, alignment equipment, balancers, uniformity equipment, etc.).
  • Work with PC&L team to optimize material flow to production line.
  • Understand Android operations (Sequencing/subassembly, shipping and receiving).
  • Be responsible for equipment certification and run-off provide feedback and escalate any issues to leadership.
  • Ensure proper OEE.
  • Act as a liaison and coordinate with Plant team members to make sure that lessons learned, best practices, and plant goals are driven into the new production process being developed.
  • Coordinate program change requests.
  • Provide Manufacturing Engineering guidance and support to ensure that the resultant assembly processes, tooling and equipment will improve throughput, scrap/rework reduction, reduce cost, and improve quality and reliability.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineer to drive Quality (PFMEA, Reverse PFMEA, Control Plan, Error-proofing plan) back into the design of the assembly processes and equipment and to ensure a robust Manufacturing System is delivered to the Plant that meets quality and engineering standards.
  • Maintain process integrity by developing and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines.
  • Promote health and safety in all phases of engineering and launch.
  • Maintain equipment records by filing documents; updating equipment database.
  • Protect organization value by keeping information confidential; cautioning others regarding potential breaches.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in assembly and/ or manufacturing and 2+ years of experience with APQP system.
  • Supervisory experience in the manufacturing field is preferred.

TRAVEL:
Travel Required: Minimal
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • General understanding of manufacturing processes, Android operations (sequencing, sub-assembly, shipping and receiving, and tooling).
  • Strong knowledge of tooling, equipment, automation, engineering specifications, and cost reduction in automotive assembly applications.
  • High level of analytical ability and problem-solving skills where problems are unusual and difficult.
  • Strong decision-making skills with ability to grasp technical concepts quickly.
  • Proficient with GD&T process diagrams, PFMEA, and Control Plans
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with all team members - manufacturing, engineering, executive leadership, etc.
  • Working knowledge of IATF quality system.
  • High level computer skills to include Windows applications, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD a plus
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
