Tool Room Attendant

Location: Houston, TX 77051
Pay: $18.00–$25.00 per hour, DOE
Night Shift Differential: Additional 10% pay differential for qualifying night-shift hours

Position Overview

We are seeking a dependable and organized Tool Room Attendant to manage the daily operation of the tool room and ensure shop employees have the tools, equipment, and consumables needed to perform their work safely and efficiently.

The Tool Room Attendant will maintain accurate inventory and tool-issuance records, receive and organize new tools and equipment, coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs, and assist with purchasing activities. The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working with multiple people, and able to communicate effectively with shop leads, supervisors, suppliers, and management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate records of issued tools and monitor tool room inventory.

  • Track tool locations, assignments, repairs, maintenance, and returns.

  • Receive new tools and equipment and properly enter them into inventory.

  • Schedule preventative maintenance and repairs for tools and equipment as required.

  • Ensure tools and consumables are properly organized, labeled, and readily available.

  • Supply tools, equipment, and consumables to shop employees as needed.

  • Identify tool and equipment needs throughout the shop.

  • Research tools, equipment, and supplies online to identify competitive pricing and availability.

  • Communicate with suppliers and vendors to request pricing and product information.

  • Prepare and submit new purchase requests to management for approval.

  • Coordinate with the Purchasing Department to request purchase orders.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and files for inventory, purchasing, maintenance, and reporting purposes.

  • Monitor inventory levels and identify items that need to be reordered.

  • Work effectively with multiple employees and requests simultaneously.

  • Maintain good communication with shop leads, supervisors, purchasing personnel, and management.

  • Keep the tool room clean, organized, and safe.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Required Skills amp; Qualifications
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain accurate records of tool locations, inventory, repairs, and preventative maintenance.

  • Basic computer skills for maintaining inventory and purchasing records.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Ability to work with spreadsheets and maintain accurate documentation.

  • Good command of the English language, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at various levels of the organization.

  • Ability to research products and suppliers online to identify competitive pricing.

  • Strong multitasking skills and ability to prioritize multiple requests.

  • Dependable, organized, and safety-conscious.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Education amp; Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience working with tools, equipment, inventory, purchasing, or maintenance records is preferred.

Physical Requirements amp; Work Environment

This position is primarily performed in a manufacturing/shop environment. Approximately 75% of the position may be performed sitting, with approximately 25% standing and walking, depending on daily operational needs.

The Tool Room Attendant must be able to:

  • Work in a non-climate-controlled shop environment.

  • Work in varying hot and cold temperatures.

  • Stand and/or walk for extended periods as required, including shifts of up to 10 hours per day and up to 6 days per week.

  • Frequently bend, twist, reach forward and overhead, and maintain balance.

  • Occasionally sit, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • Frequently bend at the waist and perform twisting movements.

  • Frequently lift materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, including lifting from floor to shoulder height and waist to shoulder height.

  • Occasionally carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds over short distances of approximately 30 feet.

  • Frequently use hands and fingers for handling, grasping, and coordination tasks.

  • Perform repetitive motions as required.

  • Occasionally stoop and crouch.

  • Safely perform work requiring adequate hearing and communication abilities.

  • Demonstrate normal vision, including adequate color recognition, depth perception, and field of vision for inventory management, computer work, and reading documentation.

  • Frequently climb ladders and occasionally climb stairs or steps.

Safety amp; PPE

All employees are required to follow company safety procedures and maintain a safe and organized work environment.

Required PPE in the manufacturing facility includes:

  • Steel-toe boots

  • Safety glasses

  • Company-provided hard hat

  • Additional PPE as required for specific work areas or assignments

Compensation

$18.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Night shift employees receive an additional 10% pay differential for qualifying night-shift hours.

Pay will be determined based on relevant manufacturing, tool room, inventory, purchasing, and administrative experience.
