Melfred Borzall is a modern manufacturing company based in Santa Maria, California. We design and manufacture high-quality horizontal directional drilling tools used to install underground infrastructure throughout the world. We are seeking an experienced Welding Supervisor to lead a skilled team of welders and fabricators.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Welding Supervisor will lead a skilled team in producing high-quality Horizontal Directional Drilling tools. The ideal candidate will provide oversight for the team, quality, safety and execution within a modern manufacturing environment that includes robotic welding and an advanced fabrication process.
The core focus will be on providing oversight and continuous improvement involving robotic welding cells; MIG and flux-core welding; hardfacing and MIG carbide hardfacing; brazing; plasma table cutting, sawing, drilling and part preparation.
Duties / Responsibilities:
Lead, train and mentor a team of 15+ full-time welders and interns;
Assign work, plan schedules and coordinate priorities to meet production goals;
Oversee the quality process and ensure compliance with AWS / ASME standards;
Promote and enforce a strong safety culture across all welding operations;
Collaborate with the Engineering, Machining and Operations departments, to execute work efficiently;
Oversee welding equipment, including robotic welding cells;
Maintain records for inspections, certifications and productivity metrics;
Drive continuous improvement in quality, safety and efficiency.
Qualifications:
At least 7 years of welding experience in a manufacturing environment;
Proven successful experience supervising or leading welders;
Strong working knowledge of MIG / flux-core welding processes;
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols and specifications;
Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and accountability;
Experience with robotic welding systems, preferred;
AWS certifications (CWI), a plus;
Lean manufacturing exposure, a plus;
Familiarity with solid modeling or design concepts, preferred;
Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring and coaching engineers and production teams;
Excellent project management skills;
Astute oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
Exceptional organizational, analytical, time management, problem-solving, multi-tasking and attention to detail skills;
Ability to work effectively alone and within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Working Hours:
7:00AM -3:30PM, Monday - Friday
Compensation:
$93K - $105K DOE annual base salary, for this full-time exempt position
