The operations manager plays a vital role in ensuring that the day-to-day operations of manufacturing run smoothly. They are responsible for ensuring that effective methods are put into place so that operations run with maximum productivity.

The main responsibilities of an operations manager include handling the logistics of the organization, maintaining budget targets and inventories, and overseeing the supervision of manufacturing and supply chain employees. The individual will be expected to harness a working environment which encourages team work, energy and creativity. To achieve this, they should have strong leadership and excellent problemโ€‘solving skills along with good communication skills.

This role requires someone with the ability to think on their feet and make quick decisions with little hesitation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operations
  • Coordinate manufacturing activities to meet the companyโ€™s delivery commitments
  • Supervise Materials Procurement supporting manufacturing schedules and financial requirements of the company
  • Direct and supervise manufacturing resources to most efficiently utilize personnel
  • Develop and manage annual manufacturing department budget and operating expenditures
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation for the efficient operation of all manufacturing activities.
  • Collaborate across departments and functions to ensure on time product delivery
  • Oversee facilities, maintenance, and special construction projects
  • Operate the Companyโ€™s ERP/MRP system to receive and issue parts, create work orders and retrieve part and assembly information
Supply Chain
  • Design and implement improvements, and maintain supply chain systems, policies, procedures
  • Assist Buyers in maintaining supplier base. Approve new suppliers. May perform visits/audits on key suppliers. Replace non-performing suppliers. Achieve total cost reductions.
  • Keep inventories of production materials within the established coverage levels with accurate system balances and with minimum obsolescence and scrap
  • Oversee supplier negotiations, contracts, agreements, and preferred vendor status for controlled and non-controlled items
  • Review material suppliers with planning, purchasing and quality personnel to evaluate and improve service, quality, availability, shipping costs, stocking options, and price
  • Responsible for the companyโ€™s materials needs by coordinating all aspects of materials forecasting, inventory planning and purchasing.
  • Oversee coordination and monitoring of performance of supplier base to obtain companyโ€™s expectations for quality, delivery and cost.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise personnel in purchasing, shipping, and manufacturing

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree from a four-year college or University in related discipline (preferred)
  • Five plus yearsโ€™ experience in a low volume, high mix assembly and/or welding environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written formats
  • Experience in manufacturing supervision, materials planning, production control, and purchasing.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Working knowledge of fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, manufacturing documentation systems.
  • Ability to translate technical specifications into customer/business requirements
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
  • Experience working within both a team environment and independently
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to synthesize and interpret technical data
  • Must have strong technical and administrative skills
  • Must be able to interrelate well with personnel at all levels and possess good oral and written English communication skills
  • Ability to operate a Windowsยฎ based computer workstation with MS Office applications (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, etc.)
WORK ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • The normal work environment is typical of a business office and manufacturing operation
  • The incumbent is routinely required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, touch, see, and hear, and may be required to lift or move up to 30 pounds
  • While performing the regular duties of the position, the incumbent may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and possible exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals
  • The incumbent must be able to wear safety equipment and follow safety instructions
